Build rate field/slot-WITP editor X

Post by Buck Beach »

Trying to figure out how this field is used in the wpa. A curserory bounce around review (in only CAIO and not the other scenairos) of the a/c for both the Allies and the Japanese doesn't show it being populated. I know at the beginning of the game there are aircraft being produced so it must not be for that purpose. Any thoughts??

In a proper WITP campaign, the build rate field should not be used for Japan - but if used it will work.

This is because Japan is supposed to "buy" its aircraft - and any aircraft which appear because of this field will be
"free" aircraft - not built by the (Japanese) production system. The Allies get planes both ways - from factories on the map -
and for "free" (representing off map production). RHS, however, converted the Allies over to a system similar to Japan - NO
aircraft for free either - ALL on the map. This because it permits two effects we wanted in the game:

Effect 1: In many cases, we can "ramp up" production: starting the number of planes at 1, it changes by 1 per day until the total
number per month is reached - so you don't start out with (say) 60 per month - and it takes two months to reach that rate.

Effect 1: By upgrading what is produced at a factory, we can sunset production - so an early war type is not produced in vast and unusable numbers even late in the war (which happens if you use the field in question).

We used map edge and even off map locations for these factories to represent production not in the contested area. [There is also some Allied production on the map in historical places not otherwise in WITP mods: at Hyderabad India you have China Aircraft Ltd - which is still there as Hindustan Aircraft Ltd - for example] This was a workaround which will not be required in AE - which has a sunset date for aircraft - although the ramp up feature may still make it a good idea.
