Johny Reb; dont you have an Arty ?

Post by JavieRyan »

Few days ago i returned to FOF oh What great game…. new funny hours are coming…in my last game I had lost as union, end at jan 1866. Im trying to remember tactics ,politic environments and rutines in battlefields, my troops didnt performed well , but they opened a deep gap in tenessi and GA . My question is about artillery I didn’t see any unit CSA artillery in my battles, I always learn with AI attitude and my question is How is the reason to not AI Purchase Arty ?This time, I think that some arty unit (I know..isnt cheaper) would help to defeat me in a short rage of time. Thnks in advance and for this FOF.

The AI does buy artillery, but it is hard to afford it as the CSA, especially if the North is putting the squeeze on them.

In the standard cmp, the Confederates at least start with three Arty Units present; Washington Art, Jeff Davis Bttry and a generic art in Tennessee. I added also the Rockbridge Art to their OOB as well as substantial Union Artillery since the Federals start with only one piece Art IIRC [8|]

Conny i played Coming fury no balanced, my principal and unique Teathe of operation were center and west, no battles in east (i always have there the "beggining of the end") the rebs didnt attacked there i presume they had artillery in these army (west) and no in others.

The high cost for producing an artillery from scratch prevents the CSA AI from making them I believe. I havent ever seen them make one. I think on the laundry list of wants the AI always finds something cheaper that it needs NOW. Maybe if the stars were aligned correctly and the CSA AI got the right foreign aid and landed on the right blockade runner goods it would start production of one but I havent ever seen it.

If there was a way to increase the tendency of the AI to create artillery through double arty attachments without going nuts (like converting LUs or making too many) that might be a good idea. There are several brigades with artillery attachments in N Virginia that can be turned into artillery in the first turn or two. That is usually my first move as the CSA and maximizes my early advantage.

I've seen the CSA AI build artillery, but I agree it's rare - other economic priorities I'd guess. I have to admit that it has a few times captured one of my artillery brigades as well though, which is a pretty good way to get artillery.

In the game I'm currently playing, the CSA AI has built several artillery, mostly out west. This has forced me to build more artillery for use out there as an equalizer. Of course, I am also the proud owner of the Jeff Davis Battery...hehehe...[:D]
