instead of attackin the two Australian divisions in the hex, the low assault value btn is attacked. It´s one of the myths on the forum that always the unit with the highest assault value in the stack is attacked... it´s just a myth...

the smaller strike at least attacks one of the divisions. We´re not achieving anything here but taking losses to our high exp bomber crews. I will wait for my tanks and will then knock out the Australian position here. I don´t need the airforce to do this...

I thought it would be better to rest my Zeroes and to save my Navy pilots, so the Oscars from Mandalay were on escort today. Half a dozen Oscars are shot down but we nearly achieve a 4:1 in A2A. The fact that we had the bounce for some time during the engagement helped us a lot. Swift still contests our attacks, though with ideal numbers for us! I can´t believe it, he can´t act better... for us! [:D] Destroying more and more British fighters (and killing British pilots) will help us delay the offensive out of India until the Tojo will show up in large numbers at the end of 42.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Calcutta , at 29,23

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 27

Allied aircraft

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
4 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Aircraft Attacking:
6 x SB-2c bombing at 14000 feet

at some point I will take out Chengut´s airfield. But those attacks aren´t achieving anything, so we shouldn´t risk our bombers against a couple of Chinese base forces with lots of flak guns... Swift´s Chinese forces must be super low on supplies, it doesn´t matter if he burns more supplies using his bombers! [8D]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Darwin Defense Brigade, at 34,88

this time two low assault value units are attacked... end of A2G attacks now...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Broome

half of our TK rgts were ordered to shock attack and easily take the base. An Australian bgd and a Dutch base force surrendered, worth some 140 points for ground losses... now our tanks will move towards Darwin (which only has one unit left, the CD gun unit which is static)....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Nanning

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 92906 troops, 1154 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2027

Japanese ground losses:
70 casualties reported

China is only a matter of time at this point. I will block the Chinese units in Chungking with this force forever if needed, the units that are still in the North (some two dozen units of different strenght) will be attacked when I have taken out the South. After that, we will see. Of course I will leave far more assault points in China than the garrison requirements of the game are.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at 34,88

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 31788 troops, 329 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 855

Defending force 58580 troops, 434 guns, 10 vehicles, Assault Value = 957

Japanese ground losses:
30 casualties reported
Guns lost 3

air losses of this turn! Total air losses will follow soon. As I´ve just posted the total air losses from my Allied game against Hortlund I can say that so far I´m really happy with the losses I took. Hortlund lost some 1300 Japanese fighters, while I only lost 360 at nearly the same date. Total plane losses are also satisfying so far. And I wonder when I will really see the first serious Allied move to destroy some of my material. I was already surprised to see Swift fighting for Northern Australia now, as suddenly those two Australian divisions showed up on the rail SE of Wyndham.

Japanese Ships
PT Gyoraitei #3, Shell hits 1, and is sunk

Allied Ships
BB Colorado
DD Preston
DD Tucker
DD Clark
DD Gilmer

And here comes the slow BB bombardment TF I was talking about last turn... Colorado is put in super danger, Swift has seen my Nells failing to locate his TFs a couple of times already. He´s playing with fire and all that saves him so far is pure luck...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naval bombardment of Paramushiro Jima, at 82,34 - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

95 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.
Allied Ships
DD Gilmer

DD Preston, Shell hits 18, on fire, heavy damage
BB Colorado

and here´s the bombardment without any effect but the loss of two DDs!! [:D] Again, luck prevents Swift from losing another BB. My Nells are stood down because of a thunderstorm all day over their base. My CVEs were in position but ONE hex short. Colorado took position THREE hexes East of Paramushiro Jima, means she can only go 3 hexes at full speed. Today she ended up FOUR hexes off the base [&:] and therefor the ship was five hexes away from my Kates... [>:]

DD Tucker sunk by CD gun fire off the coast of Paramushiro Jima!

USS Tucker (DD-374), 1936-1942
USS Tucker, a 1500-ton Mahan class destroyer, was built at the Norfolk Navy Yard, Virginia. Commissioned in July 1936, she spent the next year working up in the western Atlantic before going to the Pacific to join the Battle Fleet. During the rest of the decade Tucker mainly operated off the West Coast and in Hawaiian waters, with a trip into the Caribbean in early 1939 to participate in Fleet Problem XX. In 1941 she visited New Zealand as part of the Navy's efforts to demonstrate its presence in the region at a time of rising tensions with Japan.

Tucker was moored at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, when Japan's surprise attack on the Pacific Fleet abruptly brought the United States into World War II on 7 December 1941. For the next several months she was engaged in patrol and escort duties between Hawaii and the West Coast. Sent to the south Pacific in the spring of 1942, Tucker operated between Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. On 3 August 1942, while escorting a freighter, she entered a defensive minefield near Espiritu Santo, New Hebrides and struck a mine amidships. With her back broken, Tucker gradually sank despite attempts to tow her ashore. This tragic accident, the result of a communications failure, cost the lives of six of her crew and deprived the Allies of a badly needed destroyer on the eve of the long and costly Guadalcanal campaign.

no A2G attack today but the shock attack finally takes the base! Took us months and a lot of casualties to take this base, so it wasn´t that bad from Swift to defend it even though he lost 4 war area HQs, half a dozen corps and a base force, worth some 400 points in ground losses. Our troops will march North now for the assault on the needed 300 ressource center of Kunming! Most of the combat units are between 10 and 15% disabled, they will need some time to be combat ready again. They will rest at Kweiyang.

Ground combat at Akyab

The 3 Allied units are able to inflict high casualties within our two divs, especially the one in the lead is really cut down. Still, we manage to take down all forts which is very important. Our divs are 80 disrupted and have to rest a couple of turns. Even with the two Allied units that come from the North, without forts we should be able to take the base - hopefully. Dakota Is were intercepted from our LRCAP over Akyab today. Guess Swift is either flying his troops out or flying supply in. Both should work better over the trails I think.

after the fall of Wuchow we brought our bombers forward from Canton to Kweiyang. We have to prevent further fort builtup at Kunming, the reason for our offensive in China. Hopefully we are able to conquer those ressources undamaged.

I guess the Allied assault value is misleading to some extend. Many of those units are the ones that had to retreat more than once. There are around half a dozen combat ready corps at Kunming.
