And one bad luck incident. The romanians didn't manage to cross a bridge, the enemy units barely managed to withstand despite i prepared them with a bomb run :(

Death or Glory ? Actually it looks more like death for my russians [:D]
My initial armies were wiped out almost completely.
My job is now to rebuild my army and delay the german advance as good as possible.
And i have to do a perfect job to stop Boron who showed that he know what to do in that scenario
in our last game.

As in the last game i´ll not show any pics for defenses i build up yet.

Learned something new. The Fins did great. They attacked Leningrad and almost broke through. At least much higher casualities for the russians than for the fins :)

I am a bit slow this time, neither minsk nor riga fall this turn. Losses are ok though i think. Additional russian casualities: 41 staff. Overall almost 130k production points lost for the russians.

I have no idea why my troops defend that bad there.
They are in a city (high autoentrench) and you can attack only from one direction,
so no concentric bonus.
All the tanks and SMG are no problem for the fins, but the staff officers are :(
Is it the additional punch of the mortars ?

The problem here is probably that that infantry type is a rear area type
and i was not able to shoot at [:(]. Looking at the last game and this attack i think
the mortars could be overpowered considering their costs and their rear area status.
Beeing in defense you can´t defend against that weapon.

Overall an other ok turn for the axis i think. Casualities not shown: 119 rifle II, 52 smg II, 2 fighter II.
So the russians lost stuff worth nearly 100k this turn. We took Riga and Minsk and are at the gates of Kiev.

Hm i have a few boni with the finntrolls. They get full staff bonus, and my stack was always <100. You on the other hand always had more than 100 stackpoints in Leningrad i think.
Finally your troops there had low readiness often. Overall i am surprised that the fins did that well too, but probably its the combo of lvl 2 troops and smgs + mortars.
Edit: Additional boni for me probably:
Smgs get only +50% on attack, not while defending cities.
And at least the starting finn troops have 50 xp, so i might get some nice xp boni too.

Overall i think that are no realistic results in that attack and Vic should look at.
Staff support we had both and the stack limit is not such a unit killer.
I had not full readiness that´s true, but enough to fight you back without losing everything in that hex.

That was a pure INFANTRY attack from one direction ! No air attack before, no artillery.
The result is a bad joke and i bet the mortars has been the problem firing the whole time on my troops.
Have to find a way to fight the mortars, but i know it´s impossible for the defender as
the screen shows (no mortar losses for the attacker)

I don't think it's a problem really - here were the mistakes the Russians made in that defense:
Get the AT guns out of that hex - too many stack points for almost no benefit
Get the artillery out of that hex - too many stack points for almost no benefit
Get the staff out of that hex - they defend for little but increase your stack points

If you have very high stack points you are going to take HUGE losses.
Mortars are vulnerable to artillery
Russian readiness and experience are probably both low

This time the finns do not so well with their leningrad attack. Finn losses:
4 mg, 7 rilfe, 27 smg = 4670 production

Russians:
1 infantry gun, 2 horses, 5mg, 4 mortar, 10 staff, 34 rifle, 25 smg = 11800 production

Still more than worth it though, and not to forget the strategic effect. Those troops Seille constantly uses to reinforce Leningrad will be missing somewhere else.

Did make a few mistakes. Worst mistake is that i had my engineers from AG-South too far away and seille blew both kiev bridges. So i have 3-4 units of panzers standing around uselessly there with 60-80 ap.

Also an attack at AG Center failed, was too daring there. Lost 2 tanks and ~50 infantry there and killed slightly less russian stuff.

So the stats are quite unfavorable for the germans this turn. Only 71860 production points losses for the russians vs. 20350 for the germans. And furthermore Seille has now the opportunity to maybe make some counterattacks.

Finns are finally out of steam. Even lost 2 mortars and had slightly higher casualities than the russians in my attack.

Main fighting this turn occured around Smolensk. Feels like a deja vu from our last game. AG Center penetrated most of the russian defenses in the center.
Not insignificant russian forces survive, but those formations all only have artillery or foot movement. Seille blew up the bridges over the river there also. So those troops there are basically outmaneuvered and will probably try to retreat in Seilles turn. At least attacks with those troops are very unlikely i think.

HGs Antonescu, Süd and Nord had only small skirmishes this turn since they were mainly crossing empty terrain.
AG North is now near Leningrad to help the Finns, AG South heads towards Kharkow and the Romanians siege currently Sewastopol. Despite there was only one Großkampf this turn Seilles losses are pleasantly high. Nearly 90k production points. Germans suffered 22k losses. The fin desaster had a large share of those losses.

I tried to stabilize my front in the center which is very hard since Borons forces are very strong
especially his horse driven mortar units which i have to fear the most.
I fought back a enemy tank unit at my left flank in the center.
And i fought back a engineer unit near Leningrad.
Overall i was not very active this turn. A result of the very hard enemy attacks.
Boron keeps the pressure high the whole time.
