Gary, I wouldn't set it up with so many "Any"s.

I know. I just grabbed a quick shot of the situation screen. I dont actually have any 4th down situations at the moment. But I plan to set up a few. I hadnt even thought about it yet.

I dont think there is a way to specify quarter is there? I know FBPRO always had 1st and 2nd half slots to load playbooks and profiles into. That would be a nice addition. Not sure I want my team going for it on 4th in the 1st half.

FBPro did have a 1st half and 2nd half options for the gameplan.  That is certainly a wish list item for future Maximum Football gameplans.

I wouldn't mind it dependent on the yards from opponents goal and the score.

RE: Going For It On 4th Down? - Playbook Request

Post by quixian »

I'm getting heavily into testing a few roster changes lately and have a question - does anyone have a current playbook they'd like to share (or already have loaded on FBMax) where the CPU will go for it on 4th down in certain situations?  I swear that I had it working at one point with one of my playbooks but I can't seem to get it working again.  Can't remember if the last time I had it working was in a pre-2.0 version or not.  As it stands now, with version 2.1 the CPU will punt on 4th down everytime, regardless of the profile that is set up.  I've tried it with or without specific plays added to the situation and am getting nowhere.  Even tried a fake punt setup in case the CPU is selecting only Punt formations, (the fake punt also worked in the past) and that is ignored by the CPU also.

I believe I read that profile changes are one of the things being worked on in the latest patch - but in the meantime, I'd love to be able to play a few games where the CPU tries to get a 1st down on 4th and whatever when trailing in the game.  So, if anyone has a playbook that they wouldn't mind sharing where the 4th down situations work, please upload one or point me in the right direction where I can download it.  Thanks!

Quixian,

In the public release, if you add ANY situations, those plays will be avaialable to ANY situation that comes up further down the list, so if ANY is used in Down, those plays may get called even in late game situations.

David has listened to feedback here, and we are testing to have any true specific situation stand on its own, so even if there is a ANY up the tree, if the specific situation is valid, it will be exclusive.

That should help.

Marauders - Thanks for the explanation and info about the work currently being done on the ANY parameter.  I just changed the "Yds To Go" parameter in my 4th down profiles to "ANY" and that fixed the situation for me at present.  I can live with the CPU getting overagressive occasionally at the end of the 1st half, as they rarely turn the ball over anyway with the plays I typically have them use [:D]

Hope the ability to have separate 1st and 2nd half playbooks does make it into the next patch as well, because with the other updates announced - ie, the proposed changes to the "ANY" logic and the ability to replicate existing profiles, that would make creating playbooks a much easier process and just about perfect overall.
