Strange things observed

Post by sadja »

First this is not a complaint list, just observations from fighting. I have only played the South except for one game early on.

1. It is great that the cav charge freeze is gone.[&o][&o]
2. When you split units they get double experiance increase.
3. i have an artillery unit that doesn't show cannons but infantry. They are armed with cannons, but will fire, and march like infantry. I guess 3900 napoleon's make quite a punch.
4. When a small union group is disrupted in a battle, the div container is destroyed but the individual brigade wander around the south instead of retreating to thier own lines. They have to be hunted down because they will disrupt production for that turn.[:(]
5. The AI uses thier art horribly. [:-]They spend most of thier time repositioning instead of fighting. I use to worry about them but only not thier position so I can capture it when the bluebellies run.[:)][:)]
6. I found attacking cities instead other siege techniques, it is over quickly and sometimes less losses. I haven't attacked fortresses yet, just city garrisions.
7. Many thanks for a wonderful game and all the work that was put into it.[&o][&o]
8. When you split a unit the second unit seems to always move last in group. Mostlikely you are creating a new unit and it goes to the bottom of the container list.[:)]

Questions:
1. Do you need a fleet container for the south to fight better?
2. If you take a cav unit and give it 2 horse art atributes, what does it become? Sorry haven't had tme to create that yet.

Enough of these qualify for the "Support" forum that I am moving it there.

Will fix the double experience points.  Hadn't thought about that before, though I can imagine why people weren't complaining about it [:)]

What type of artillery weapon did that unit have?

Loose brigades should try to make their way back to a friendly military group, but they will avoid any provinces with enemy units that stand in their way.  This might cause them to get stuck in enemy territory.

Do the split units show the proper military group of the unit from which they were split?

Cav units with 2 horse artilleries are just a cav unit with two horse artilleries...

Ships fight much better in fleet containers, mostly because the container guarantees all the units move together, though such containers don't help blockade runners.

The art is napoleons. It happened most likely durring a save. I had already renamed the unit. It was created from a garrision by buying 2 artillery atributes, and had fought in at least 2 previous battles before change.

The split units say they are from they same unit, they just move well after the first.. I was thinking that the unit with the leader may be why they move first.

The AI likes to use loose brigades for "raids" using them to prevent the player from getting resources from a province, e.g. the Shennandoah Valley is often occupied that way, and blocking the railroad.
The AI also uses loose brigades to reinforce besieging units on the coast, e.g. when there is a division in North Carolina, it gets reinforced by loose brigades coming through Virginia. If they cannot reach the besiegers they try to get to Fort Monroe where the next division container is located. So if the Confederate player does not prevent that he ends up with a large enemy body of troops at Fort Monroe which might as well start a peninsular campaign.
It remembers me of the Cossacks from CoG running around in Europe.
