Data Base Warning and Edited Warning ?

Post by Oldguard1970 »

My opponent and I reloaded our games and applied the two patches, (1.804 and 1.806 revised.)

We fired up stock scenario 15 to start a PBEM.

If I as the allied player open the player 1 (Japanese) first turn and click on the options and preferences button in the top toolbar, I see the active settings for our game. However, there were two warnings as well.

One warning told me the scenario had been edited and blay balance might be affected. (Neither of us did anything like that. Perhaps this warning was triggered by changes in the patches???)

The other warning said the Japanese player needs to install the 1.6 database.

1. Does this mean one or both of us did not patch properly?

2. Can we continue to play this game, or are we in trouble?

3. If we have to repatch, can the saved Japanese first turn be checked and reused, or, (shudder), must the Japanese player start making his first turn from scratch?

As far as the warning about "this scenario has been edited" - have you looked at the scenario in your editor and then saved it (rather than exiting?) This would be interpreted by the game as running a non-standard player mod.

As far as the database changes - iirc, both should either ignore or load them (just to make sure you are on the same page)... i don't think it makes much difference otherwise.

The only reason you would have to restart is if you make database changes... otherwise you can keep running.

EDIT - i am PRETTY sure you can ignore the database changes question... iirc, this was for 1.6xx, and i think 1.8xx took care of the question.

Thanks, Bob (heaving a sigh of relief)

I have never opened the editor.  I'll check with my opponent.  My guess is that he has not done so either.

Data base changes are part of certain patches, aren't they?  Or do you have to do something else to load a database?  All we did was load the original game and execute the two patches.  That should put us on the same page unless one of the patching processes went screwy.

The database update was part of changing 1.6xx, iirc... i think it had to do with larger AP and GP bombs, but i might be misremembering. This allowed games in progress at the time to continue without being restarted.

Since these changes got incorporated in later patches, and you are starting from scratch, you shouldn't be needing to update the database.

Don't know why you are getting the other warning unless something changed the mod in some fashion.

EDIT - i am assuming your original message is correct and you are playing a stock scenario.

Hello Bob,

Thanks for the input.  The mod warning is a mystery, and we will ignore it. (Yes, we are playing stock.)   The Japanese player's screen gives him the option to install database 1.6.  As we are already into the game, and the changes do not seem to be critical, we will ignore that too and play on.

You and others have made the point that the game is radically different in PBEM instead vs. the AI.  That is so true!  We are both nervous and agonized.  What is going to happen next?  I have never played a game that develops such fascinating tension.  Wonderful!
