RHSEOS Japanese Bomber Utility

Post by el cid again »

This is a very complex spreadsheet - due to the need to rate bombers in different roles. This version is for EOS family scenarios. A similar one
probably will be done for CVO and BBO families - called Standard. An Allied one is not coming soon: it would take a lot of work, and it has less utility because there is no need to make Allied production decisions - but maybe someday. Only the ratings and notes are reproduced here: the actual spreadsheet has comprehensive data for each aircraft.

Note: RHS Firepower = the sum of the product of Effect and Penetration fields for all guns facing forward.
Note 1: The Val dive bomber sank more ships than any other bomber in history.
Note 2: The "Operational Ceiling" is an RHS concept: it is approximately halfway between Service Ceiling and Optimum Operating Altitude. It is defined as 80% of Service Ceiling for normal piston engines; 90% of Service Ceiling for turbosupercharged piston engines;
and as 95% of Service Ceiling for jet engines or rocket engines.
Note 3: Carries 1 x 800 kg torpedo with a 240 kg warhead vs naval targets to normal range. Note 4: The value of rockets is not evaluated in ratings. They may work in both air v air and air v ground combat.
Note 5: Cost / Effectiveness is in terms of combined value / HI points. Note 6: Carries 1 x 250 kg bomb and 2 DC vs submarine targets. Equipped with MAD and radar.
Note 7: Carries 2x250 kg bombs & 2xDC vs submarine targets. Equipped with MAD and Radar. Note 8: Carries 1xOhha Anti-shipping missile with 802 kg warhead vs naval targets to normal range.
Note 9: Carries 2xHS-293 PGM plus 8x250 kg bombs to normal range and 2xHS-293 PGM plus 4x250 kg bombs to extended range. Each HS-293 has a 325 kg warhead.
Note 10: Carries 8 x 60 kg bombs or DC to normal range. Carries 4 x 60 kg bombs or DC to extended range.
Note 11: Carries 16 x 60 kg bombs or DC to normal range. Carries 8 x 60 kg bombs or DC to extended range. Late war units equipped with MAD and radar.
Note 12: Night Fighter/Night Intruder. Mid war units arrive with "Schrage Musik" (2x upward firing 20 mm guns). Does not carry bombs to extended range. Does not make daylight naval attacks. Night fighter air combat value = 10 (15 with Schrage Musik).
Night Fighter CAP value = 16. Night Fighter Escort value = 15. Combined value includes these ratings.
Note 13: Shown with default armament of 3 x 100 lb ICB clusters (= 3 x 15 kg bombs). This is carried to extended range. Some units carry 6x 25kg Uji BW bombs. Value as BW bombers no evaluated (probably 1). Dive bomber (really).
Note 14: Carries 4x100 lb ICB clusters (= 3 x 15 kg bombs). Dive bomber.
Note 15: Carries 8x100 lb ICB clusters (= 3 x 15 kg bombs).
Note 16: Selected units carry 1 x 800 kg torpedo with a 240 kg warhead vs naval targets to normal range. In this form NR Naval Bomber rating = 16.
Note 17: Carries 1 x 1669 kg torpedo with a 406 kg warhead vs naval targets to normal range.
Note 18: Carries 4 x 250 kg bombs and 4 x DC vs submarine targets. Equipped with MAD and radar.
Note 19: This observation aircraft is properly shown as a virtually worthless bomber.
Note 20: Short range bomber rating: the ability to carry 500 kg of bombs to 5 hexes; Long range bomber rating: the abilty to carry 500 kg of bombs to 10 hexes; Naval bomber rating: normal range anti-ship value; Long range Naval bomber rating: extended range anti-ship value.
Note 21: Dive bomber.
