Hi Grell,

No, this is totally separate, we're just adding Shockwave's Battle of Britain 2 to our catalog as we feel it's another title wargamers should take a look at. You'll find Grigsby's design planned for an updated re-release in the "Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich" forum, it's still in development.

No it's not. It's Shockwaves remake of the classic (but bug ridden to hell) Rowans Battle of Britain flight simulator.

I think the reason it falls into the category of Matrix Games (although they aren't totally averse to sims) is that there is a strategic level to it, where you play the RAF or Luftwaffe commander, assigning patrols, intercepts, bombing raids, fighter cover etc, etc. As you play out the strategic element, you can choose to "jump in" to a cockpit and fly, either on take off, or at contact.

The whole package as a whole is very in depth and a great game.

Unfortuanetly, the last time I played it, I was still getting the English Text error message. The game was very touchy. However, I may be being unkind to it, as I haven't played it in some time and the community and devs are 100% engrossed in making it everything it was originally meant to be.

At to it volumetric cloud effects, great flight models, excellent sounds, great AI dog fighting, and great (if rather drab) graphics and it's a BoBs best dream realised.

But be prepared to take it warts and all. As I said, I don't want to be unkind to it as I haven't played it in sometime...but if you can put up with the "little" issues (occassional drop to desktop, stopping "just about everything" from running in the background and very long load times) then it will immerse you in the Battle of Britain

I need to download the latest patch to give it another run through.

FYI, what we're selling is the fully updated v2.06 release rather than earlier versions.

Well if you liked Rowans BoB but were frustrated by it, I'd suggest WoV is a good purchase for the price (although I'm not sure what Matrix are selling it for).

Erik

I didn't mean to suggest you be selling any less than the latest version (although isn't it 2.07 at present?) which is why I made it clear that I played an earlier version.

Also, it is a great game...I just found it touchy with my system. I was plagued with the English Text bug right up until 2.04 I think it was. But I won't take anything away from it...it's very immersive. And the devs and community are right behind it...it's been supported and patched for quite some time now....3 years or more? ...and by patched I mean added to...some of the patches include things that some companies would sell as an add on)

I'm going to fire it up again on 2.07.

From what we were told, v2.07 is "unofficial" so ours comes with v2.06 as the stock version. You can grab the v2.07 update from the developer's site, it will work fine with our release.

This was a brilliant game. The sheer number of planes in the sky was incredible and the update was very nicely done.

This is an awesome flight sim and the work the users have done to improve it over the years is simply amazing.

The campaign is quirky and in some areas just plain does not work right but there are work arounds.

The tactical flight mode part of the game is awesome. The strategical less so.

Can't go wrong though all and all and this little gem will always be on my PC.

The AI will kick your arse too in the air. The AI is no light weight.

Hehe... yeah, that's what I remember most about it, the sheer number of planes in the sky. It really looked like the Battle of Britain. Must dig this one out again.

I'm thrilled to see Matrix has this title. BoB:WoV in my opinion is the best combat flight sim by a mile! The devs (Shockwave) are an amazing outfit that constantly patch with new additions for free, and are always listening to peoples feedback.

Yes, the initial release had bugs, but many a subsequent patch has fixed the them up and added so many new features.. the developers and mods on their forum are the friendliest and most helpful I've ever had the pleasure to encounter.

The sim is probably not graphically up to par with Il2 in some respects but the utter immersion you get from flying in a game world where hundreds of aircraft are each completing their assigned mission is absolutely amazing! You can jump into any cockpit or limit yourself to flying with a specific squadron and, when not assigned to a mission, simply watch the map as the campaign unfolds (and direct it yourself!)

This isn't your 8V8 Il2 deathmatch where only 1 plane comes back to base (yours!) this is a sim where you need to think carefully about your targets and what you want to achieve if you want to get out alive. You can jump from plane to plane but if you decimate an entire squadron in fruitless attacks your campaign plans will suffer..

Brilliant sim.. great that Matrix is involved. I'm sure it will benefit both Matrix and Shockwave! :)

Is Matrix the official North American publisher for BOB2 or are you just a seller?
What I mean is, whether Matrix will in any way be involved in the future development of the game, as sort of a 'producer'?

I thought this looked familiar.  Once I saw the logo on Shockwave's site I knew it was the old Rowan game...not bad game BTW.  It did have it's bugs (like all games), but patched it was decent.  I got plenty of flight hours out of it.

Glad to see Matrix rehashing some classics.  [:D]
