PE editor issue

Post by jackyo123 »

i was going to do some editing tonight in the PE (those weak pesky mk50's! ;>) but lo and behold, my database is empty.

to double check functionality, i opened my hcgold 2002.mdb file, and that works fine. But the new CE edition shows no data.

ques - is an access 2007 runtime required? I am using an access2000 runtime (which, again, works fine with the older 2002 db files)

or is something else required?

UPDATE

nope, access 2007 (runtime available here -
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

made no difference

I *could* import the DB, which then did populate the fields (its been a while since I edited anything - like 5 years - but this step wasnt necessary in 2002 gold)

anyway - i've changed the values of all the torps, saved, and exported. The commondb.res and the mdb files all show the updated (current) time - as if they wre changed.

however - in game - on the platform display - the weapons still show as 23 damage points, when i have changed them to 46 (basically i doubled all sub torp damage for all torps in the game) - but the change is NOT showing up in game, unless the value 23 is getting taken from a separate source (like a txt file or excel file) -

can someone shed some light? will the value you change in the PE editor be reflected in the weapons/platform displays in-game?

thanks

The database created by the PE only affects EC2003 and newer BattleSets, is that where you are playing?

If it is, when you first open the game, click the BattleSets button and make sure the game is looking in the right spot for the battlesets, not in your HC2002 or HC Gold or some other directory.

And yes, the Access 2000 runtime is fine, as is 97, those two give the least hassle, XP, 2003, and 2007 versions of Access go security warning happy...

Ahh, thats probably the issue - I was editing a Designer Series 2 scenario... wasnt aware of the limitation.

will give it a try with the newer battlesets - thanks

p.s - wasnt aware that the access runtimes on the ms site were not 'free' - i've seen them distributed with about 50 corporate apps over the past couple of years, and my old firm was an MS gold partner - microsoft was pretty well aware we were distributing the runtime - but its possible theyve changed their policies since 2000!

That is one thing there are no plans to pursue. Way back in the HC Gold days we seriously considered doing that and decided it would not be worth the effort, and that the scenarios for the most part would really merit re-creating if there were substantial database edits. On the plus side I'd love to see the scenarios re-created in the EC2003 battlesets using a database tailored to the earlier timeframe where most of those scenarios occur.
