can u switch

Battle of Britain II “Wings of Victory” re-creates the famous and desperate air battles over southern England in 1940 at both the strategic level of the Air Commander and that of the individual plane and pilot. Switch.

basically, as RAF, yopu start in the strategy map. You assign patrols etc, etc. As the Luftwaffe, you start in the strategy mode and assign bombing raids and fighter sweeps and recon.

When it all kicks off, you sit there and watch, or you can jump into anyone of the units you have tasked...from take off or wait until they intercept, where you are given a message and you elect to join the fray.

As the Luftwaffe, you have the ability to be one of the gunners on a bomber too, which is quite exciting and infuriating...but watching the spits and hurricanse barrell roll and sweep through your formation, contrails in the sky...it's very invigorating.

Essentially, you can sit and direct the campaign in strategy mode and fly as and when you wish

I have...
AMD Athlon64 XP3200+
2GB Ram
Gigabyte Geforce 5970GT 512MB

and I get great famre rates in it.

I have to say, last night I started a German campaign (the first tiem ever) and it was great to jump into the different gun positions on the He-111 and watch the Spits and Hurricanes climb to engage my staffell..all the while being chased by the Me-109s...and eventually getting to the right height and weaving in and out the formation...watching He-111s drop off with smoke billowing from their engines and Spits and Hurricanes barrell rolling and heading to the ground, smoke pouring from their engine cowling

What happens if you jump into the cockpit and get shot down?

You ALT-X and go back to the Strategy map...you can then select the same flight and jump in one of the other aircraft.

I may be wrong, but I think someone said you can flit between aircraft...I have never done this though, so I don't know if that's the case

I think I might buy this game, but I'm afraid my graphics card will not be up to the flying bits too well. It's some sort of Nvidia 5600 FX or such with 256K. I have 2GB memory, so at least that will help. I am thinking of getting a new graphics card, but I have so little use for one for the vast majority of game I play.

I have never been too good at flight sims, but they always fascinate me nonetheless. I think it would be the most interesting to be a Stuka rear gunner, as I imagine that might be the best postion to gun down a fighter, as compared to an HE111 gunner. If you could jump from aircraft to aircraft, it would be fascinating to play as an ME109 or FW190 until the fighters have to retrun home, then take over as a Stuka rear gunner.

There are no FW190's its strictly 1940's timeline. And I imagin your GFX card should be able to handle the flying with the options turned down. There is a demo I believe so try that first.

I presume you mean 256MB Charles [;)]

What are your computer specs, Charles? I would've thought your card would be fine....256MB is recommended minimum...but afaik that is mainly for the multi skin...if you do not load the multi skin, then <256 is fine. And the graphics are quite reasonably changeable. Multi Skin is the loading of individual Sqn insignia and markings rather than generic....not a big deal for people who are not into the "history" as detailed as others.

As for jumping around, I can say that being able to swap between the 3 positions of a He-111 is amazing...watching the fighters climb to engage you whilst you are in the belly gun...switching to top gunner and front gunner as needed. But I can honestly say I've never been the Stuka gunner, so I am not 100% sure you can be the Stuka gunner. You may well be able to, but I can't remember...not all gun positions are modelled....for example, you cannot be a side gunner on the He.

And Tomus is correct...there are no Fw-190s in the game because there were none during this battle...they were later in the war.

he is talking ram, 2 gig, but a wwaek card afaik.. I think this is jut bad timing, picked up 2nd Manasses to tide me over to PAnzer commander and bulge come out.. and for air war I really like attacking large formations of us bombers in my 190, ..
unless u think attack the geramns is thrilling, I would compare this to the same era Microprose air war in europe? is that the right name?
Maybe I should get the demo lol

Are you thinking of Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2, which was during the Blitz; I have CF3, which is over the continent.

I'm a little leery of BoB2:WoV -- jumping into a/c reminds me of Pacific Storm, a game which would sometimes give me the "blue screen of death". In any case, WoV had so many patches in such a short time, it discouraged me from buying it long ago.

I think the game he may be talking about is European Air War by Microprose...which was fantastic for it's day.

Yes, 256MB. It's a 2.86GHZ I think, but I haven't seen those specs in so long I forget. It's an XP if that tells you anything. I only entioned the FW190 because I was on their forum a few days ago and thought I saw somebody mentioning that plane and flying it ingame, but then maybe it was modded in. I think hte specs for the game called for 128MB though from what i saw, but giving the game is so graphical 128 sounds hugely optimistic. I'm not keen on reducing the graphical effects either, but then I probably won't be getting into any mods.
