42 B-17Es Disapeared From Charter Towers!?

Post by Brazil Banzai »

I am on the latest patch, and the date is Jan 3, 1942. This is a PBEM game, stock scenario 15. I believe the airgroup was attached to central pacific HQ. It was the only airgroup at Charter Towers, and they were sitting there for about 5 days resting after the long island hops from the US. No, I didn't withdraw or disband them (remember it was the ONLY group at CT).

The planes immediately went back into the reinforcement pool - thank goodness for that, at least. Now I am scared to move B-17s to Australia, but I know am going to need them there.

Did I miss something in the manual? It sure seems like a bug...does anyone have any advice?

Also - I changed the HQ of and transported VP-102 from Bataan to Darwin - all 12 made it to Darwin safetly last turn. However, for some reason when I opened my turn this morning I have another 3 damaged and 3 ready VP-102 planes at Bataan. In other words, another 6 Catalinas appeared at Bataan out of thin air, more or less. I transported the 3 ready planes to Darwin, so I know have 15 ready aircraft in a Squadron of 12 planes (with another 3 on the way once they repair)...this must be another bug? Can anyone offer any ideas as to what is happening. Any insights would be desperately appreciated!!!

Known bug... alas...[X(] [:(]

It isn't limited to Australia, or the Allies for that matter.

In CHS VP-102 has more than it's allottment of aircraft. Could it be that is the case in stock as well, and that these extra aircraft were there at Bataan in a damaged state when you transfered the squadron?

I think VP-102 starts with 6 in reserve status.

Thanks for the feedback, it's a bummer, to say the least...

Nothing is perfect, WitP is still an incredible game and I am having a blast with PBEM.

It seems a little weird that after a transfer, the reserve aircraft would go into a ready state, but this is something I can live with.

I've also noticed a few oddities when it comes to air groups.

When moving via air transfer, if you end up splitting the group due to having planes disabled prior to the move...the sub-unit tends to evaporate. IE I'll have 6 planes damaged that didn't move, the next day, only 2 are left.

I'e also noticed if you recombine a group from 2 sub units, a number of planes will often evaporate.

In both of these cases there are plenty of pilots for the aircraft, so I am assuming that this is either a bug, or an undocumented case of OPS losses.

Thanks for the info but could you be a little more specific? When does this bug happen and what can you do to prevent it?

Thanks!

This bug happens when you have air group fragments. If the transfer occurs between bases that are all contained within a rail (with the latest patch roads and trails count) network most times you can immediately select the fragment that is left behind and transfer it via rail movement to the same base that the original transfer was ordered to.

Hmm, I haven't seen the bug (lucky me).  But I usually make my transfers fairly leisurely and catch up all my fragments before jumping to the next base down the chain.  That would keep the chances for the bug lower than otherwise.

I've also seen what I think is a non-bug where understrength air units that are isolated and in low supply will see a fragment spawn at the theater HQ.
