Classic naval battle variant ?

Post by Pyrrhos1976 »

Hello !

I'd like to create a scenario with a variant WITHOUT carrier (!!): there's a chance that no carrier will be engaged. Do you think that CAW is designed to simulate a classic naval battle (without carrier) too ?

I know the old CAWII was able to have some European scenarios without carriers, but there was land based aircraft. I can't remember if there were any just between battlwagons. But I agree with Terminus that the design probably won't work well. I think I remember engagements at night being the only piece of the game that people argued over.

It would work, mechanically speaking, but it wouldn't be very interesting, methinks...

OK, CAW is just for Carriers battle (what a surprise !). It's not possible to simulate a whole campaign with short scenarios with it. WITP is better for this, but AI is bad. Pffff........[8|]

I'm sure it's possible, but what would be the point of it?

As the WitP AI is scripted, it becomes "stupid" over time, but it should still suffice for a short scenario.

However, my suggestion for a scenario w/o CVs is a compromise: UV! Same game engine as WitP, and it also has an editor. There's plenty of surface action available, and the UV theater is much smaller than WitP.

Just look at UV's Eastern Solomons scenario, which only covers half the map and has plenty of potential ship-to-ship action near Lunga.

Just one thing: is it possible to create a new map ? Just for a scenario about Marianas or Wake...

As UV just covers the South Pacific -- the Solomons, Western Australia and PNG -- these features aren't available.

There are map mods for WitP that enhance its map, but I haven't heard of a smaller WitP map mod, or even the capability of making one since the purpose of the game is to cover the entire PTO.

You can create your own map. It's totally possible to create a series of short scenarios. v1.02 patch should make this easier to do. :)

For "Uncommon Valor" ?? My question was for UV. With CAW I know that it's easy to create a new map, but this game is too limited for my project, I fear.

Sorry, just moved house and missed the intent of your question. I was referring to CAW.

Can you develop, because I don't see why.
With recon planes, the (no carrier) TGs can search the enemy. For example, a scenario about intercepting a convoy can be design. Doesn't it ?
Or do you think that naval combat (when a TG encounters enemy TG) doesn't work very well ?

HI
I have a scenario test made only with ships and uboot on surface to attack as a wolfpack pretty funny to watch. an recon planes is the only think a ship needs to find a other. and in the editor you can set the tg sheets to do seabattle and every aspekt you cool wish for, only read the warrom que for the ai does excakly what you tell it to do. And with the sheet i sent Bismarck on the route to meet Hood and POW HMMM i wonder why Holland ditten use the Suffolk and Nordfolk 16 pices of 8 inch guns i did and sunk both Bismarck and Prinz Eugen.
Have luck , sorry i erase the little scenario but the editor is very powerful and you can make everything from schratch to a unike scenario in CAW
Regards
The little things in life, make a huge different
