Considering Buying

Post by Jimitrout »

I am an ex Front Page Sports player that has just discovered this game and have a couple of questions before I buy it.

1. I understand there is no team salary cap structure but there is an annual rookie draft?

Q-Do the rookies ratings approximate the talent dispersal in real football?

2. There is a play creator...is it stable and is it physics or trait based in execution?

3. Overall are the owners of the game happy with it?

Anything else would be appreciated in making my decision...since 1999 I have tried almost everything out there but have been sorely disappointed.

Hello Jim and welcome.

There is an anual draft. You can change the draft rounds per season.
Q-Do the rookies ratings approximate the talent dispersal in real football?
Sort of subjective so I'll let the owners chime in.
2. There is a play creator...is it stable and is it physics or trait based in execution?
The game is physics based. Player skills impact the effectiveness of each play. Plays are executed real time with each play having a slightly different outcome than the last (even if you ran the same play over and over again). Many text based games produce play results by dice rolls and look up tables. This is not like that. The game has no idea as to what the outcome of each play is going to be until the play is over. The game can be played in spectator, coaching, or simple arcade mode. Is that what you were asking?
3. Overall are the owners of the game happy with it?
I'll let the owners chime in.

thanks
David

Hi Jim,

I can honestly say this is the only football title even close to Front Page. I'm happy with it. It is more flexible than Front Page in everyway.

The animation/Graphics are better than Front Page. It reminds me of what Front Page was and might have evolved into had it continued and had not been NFL centric.

The community support and comradery is also a big bonus for me.

This game has a future and is the only NON-ARCADE/MADDEN option.

I was and still am a huge Front Page fan and this is comparable.

I'm very happy with it. Love the fact that just about everything can be customized. It's a fantastic football construction set. Any of the ratings I don't like in the rookie pool I just edit them to what I want. The editor is very stable. You can edit players in various ways. You can use the in-game editor, also the editing utilty outside the game, also through the league database and there is also an excellent 3rd party editor made by jdhalfrack.

Jimitrout, your arriving at the perfect time, as I think the game has the oppurtunity to move from very good to greatness with the soon-coming patch.

If you were a fan of FBpro then I think this is right up your alley.

Chiming in.....

I second all the above comments.

If you are coming over from FootballPro, as many of us did, you will have a ton of fun with MaxFB.
Understand there is no NFL license, so it's a fictional world, but if you browse some of the online
leagues and check out DreamTeams league, you can see the kind of things that are possible with
Maximum Football. Also look at what OldCoach is doing with historical replay.

The lack of an NFL license isn't really an issue for me. I found in the old FB Pro days that it was more fun playing with fictional players most of the time.

The rookie pool in FB Pro almost always had to be edited by a utility to get the players up to draftable status as I recall.

The market for a game on the PC platform is wide open...I am going to buy this today thanks to everyone who replied and my hopes for a long long run to David.

You will love the game. The graphics may not be Madden's, but everything else makes up for it.
