Well, they actually are not (the first landings anyway) fragments, but since he is using his Tina's at about the max range, they can only carry a very small portion of the unit. Tina's only have a load factor of 2,000 IIRC. But I do understand what you are saying. I never liked them either (I have played many times against Steve) but I never really sweat them either. Of course, I do garrison as much of India or every base (except dot base etc) I want against him. I save every single Dutch Garrison Bn I can lay my hands on and use these for my rear garrisons until my base forces have their infantry.

Dakotas, C46 and Tabby's have a load factor of 10,000. Of course these are the real workhorse transports and I do everything I can to secure a level 2 or larger base to mass lift airborne and then larger LCU's.

why aren´t they fragments? [&:] If it´s not a whole unit (and with 50-100 men they are surely not the whole btn) what is it, if not a fragment?

I want to point out one more time: I have no problems with the use of paras in general, but what my opponent is doing are operations like "sub invasions" that are unacceptable for most people on the board. Hell, if I would do a sub invasion then there would be more men involved. And a sub invasion is nothing compared to the sh*t that I have now marching around in India creating ZOCs...[8|]

Well I asked because I know that paras get disabled quite a bit, attack without supply (IIRC), and disabled troops don't show up in the attack count. 2nd ACR also pointed out maybe the whole units didn't get airlifted. BTW, I would airlift whole unit when doing airborne assaults (if they came up short it would be unintentional).

I agree that leapfrogging without actual support would be bogus. Has anyone actually done that?

There are NOT the whole units, not even 10% of a unit. What you see are paras that have been dropped by something like 12 Tinas... [8|]

Like you say, I would have no problems with whole units. But Hortlund isn´t even interested in bringing in more. The 100 soldiers are enough to create ZOCs in every hex in India.

IIRC LRCAP counts as CAP rather than a strike missions and is therefore available to fighters at a size 1 airfiled

hmm, you´re probably right. Don´t understand it though as you can´t fly sweeps from a level 1 airfield. So I thought you couldn´t LRCAP either. Not logical to me. Just looked it up in the manual and LRCAP isn´t in the limitations of size 1 airfields.

A6M3 isn´t carrier capable! The A6M3a would be! And there are 100% no carriers in the near as my 100 search planes would have spotted them at some point.

About the only way is to chase them down with your units. Airpower does not much good against small units. Use the daylights out of your armor brigades. Give them something to do.

good news today is the fact that bombers on naval search sunk the IJN mine layer sub I-122 at Chandpur... haven´t recieved a message so far that CL Sendai is sunk. She was heavily damaged at Trimcomalee and later hit with a bomb from a Wellington on search... perhaps FOW and the damn cruiser will show up in the sunken ship list in a month or so...

Takes a long time to wipe them out unless you can corner them. I would not move any unit off the roads to go after them though. MSN or AOL instant messenger is the fasted way around. Much better than email alot of the times.

Peto on mine laying mission while on transfer to Australia attacks the already damaged AK with 4 torps but missed of course... [8|] but this again shows that Hortlund doesn´t care about his ships. This ship was hit at Saipan which is a level 3 port but he didn´t care and didn´t disband it into port. Wouldn´t surprise me if I see the AK sinking half way to Tokyo...

this is the situation at Akyab. We have enough troops that the Japanese can´t kick us out of the hex. Three AA btn in the hex, base forces, eng rgt, a CD unit and lots of infantry. A lot of Japanese material brought in that will get bombed to dust at some point. We won´t bring more troops as this won´t make much sense, we only need enough that Akyab is in danger. The most important thing will be air superiority in early 43 and I´m sure we will be able to achieve this with our training camps now. The ordered bombardment hurts us more than the defender...[8|] I thouhgt I bring all my arti from India but it seems this doesn´t help...

Runway hits 72

Aircraft Attacking:
9 x B-17E Fortress bombing at 16000 feet

Only a small Cap spotted over Gili Gili as most of the fighters there are flying training attacks. Ordered this attack to force the Japanese to put up more Cap instead of flying training and to destroy some aircraft on the ground. Well, the result is mixed. We torch 19 aircraft on the ground today and lose 3 B-17 to flak and 1 A2A but looking at my BGs, 50% of the aircraft are now inoperational again. This after only one attack against a very small Cap. Looks like 16.000ft is still too low against airfields. [8|] Will have to go up to 21.000ft at least. Soon we will have to fly at the same heights like in Europe when we go after a jungle base like Gili Gili. [:D]

Aircraft Attacking:
15 x LB-30 Liberator bombing at 6000 feet

it´s a pity that the B-24D BG arrived as LB-30. Those bombers are unarmored and have a max attack height of 20.000ft. Could be a problem against the Japanese flak bases...

I have brought ALL the artillery units from India and don´t cause a single casualty. That´s depressing, really. I guess I´m attacking a Maginot line like fortification at Akyab already. If there aren´t level 9 forts already then it won´t take long until they reach level 9. This way we will never wear down the enemy troops here... so much about the Allied art units...

here´s the intel. Doesn´t look bad, except the ground losses...
