Benghazi Breech

Post by JudgeDredd »

My hypothetical scenario Benghazi Breech to welcome the COTA patch 3 (which is alleged to have estabs for North Africa '43(?)).

Objectives and forces to be decided, but I thought I would try and draw a map up.

It's very difficult for Africa...few terrain features to make the map exciting looking and bigg expanses of, erm....nothing...meaning giving multiple avenues for maximum tactical play is also difficult...but here's my ayyempt at the area around and south of Benghazi.

The map is 30km x 20km so I'm thinking a few days scenario....

New North Africa Estabs will cover forces through 1941, which should cover plenty of action around Benghazi. Nice Map Judge.[8D]

Benghazi changed hands a couple of times and depending on who "owned" it different movies were played for the soldiers at the local movie theatre - or the Soldaten Kino in case the Germans were in town

It was so popular the yarn went that the soldiers fought for Benghazi in order to capture the movie theatre [;)] - you can't read a book about the Afrika Korps without finding a picture of that theatre in it (or so it seems from my book collection).

So, that's why I joked about making it a victory locations [;)]

Sorry (don't you hate it when you have to explain a joke!)

Anyway, I wasn't going into that much detail really.

Maybe I'll designate one of the objectives as the cinema. Do you happen to know what it was called?

How big can you go in the editor? The fun stuff with N Africa was the maneuvering aspect, which might or might not be too big a scale (mapwise) for COTA. Dunno . . .

It'd be great to cover the whole region from Bengazhi to Tobruk and eastward.

It's not recommended to go bigger than 2000 sq. km or 40kmx50km.

Judge, did you import the map effects from my Sid Rezegh Map or Redmike's Bir el Gobi Map? For consistancy we may want to stay with similar terrain values and types.

I'm not sure I know what you mean?? I only used map effects from COTA standard.

I haven't done anything fancy....used rough, some forest, marsh

No worries, stay with what you got. The only significant new effect is 'escarpment' which you won't need unless your map extends to the Jebel region.
