Well, yes... it's a completely different scale... massively different.

Yes. The scale has been changed from 60 miles per hex to 40 miles per hex, so there will be a lot more possible bases on the new map.

Anyone here care to post a link to the new map screenshots? The AE threads are massive and my first search failed to find any posts with screenshots of the new maps.

That's because there have been no screenshots showing any portion of the maps, IIRC. This will probably come in a couple of months or so, as they get closer to the release date.

There are some screenshots on the announcement page for AE.
