yeah i would concentraite those units at the christmas palmyra area but leave canton on it's own. it is undefensable where the other can mutaly support each other and are a short run from pearl.

Hi NY and BOBO!!!!!!!!!!!!,
I was thinking the opposite but I can see that some other arguments that I have not wanted to emerge are starting to put the scale on the opposite side when it comes to my way of thinking... [:D]
What I am implying is that again in my humble opionion, main Dixie's targets for now should be Canton and Fiji... for the reasons both gents are mentioning... well Canton obviously is undefensable in a sense but on the other hand as ny states, focusing on sending these divisions to Fiji is another similar situation to the one with Canton... I just think that there won't be enough time to reinforce Suva with these two units and build up defenses over there... however I may yet be mistaken....
I am thinking right now... [:(][:D]

My Thread, Yava! You are slaughtering Dixies shipping with the coastal defense guns at Hong Kong!!! [X(][&o][&o]
If you lose Hong Kong this instant, you have made him pay a very, very high price for it. This is one lesson I will file away and remember if I ever play the Japanese. Do not attempt to invade Hong Kong from the sea! [:D]
Well done, my friend! [8D]

Actaully I am quite surprised by this tactics of Dixie... [X(]
It really makes no sense to me. He lost many man and many ships trying to land in the place... I don't think he needs HK so badly. I would just kill the Canton forces and push for HK, but oh well it's his tactics and I appreciate that he is loosing APs and AKs that in my opinion he needs badly after the DEI fun. Rest of his APs and AKs are probably preparing or already sailing towards PM... I hope that I am not mistaken because if this is what they are doing... I have some additional time to reinforce my precious islands of the Central and Southern Pacific![:)]

I've come to find that I always have excess AKs just hanging around various ports. No real need for many of them.

Gents,
it seems that the Japanese are coming in for PM an enemy TF has been spotted steaming toward the place... planes are being eevacuated. No sight of the KB air cover but I assume that Dixie's CVs are in the close proximity.
In China another unit must have crossed the river to join the enemy forces blocking Yenan as it can be seen here...
Ground combat at Yenan
Japanese Shock attack
Attacking force 81004 troops, 341 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2212
Defending force 52750 troops, 296 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1418
Japanese max assault: 478 - adjusted assault: 76
Allied max defense: 1481 - adjusted defense: 1750
Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 6)
Japanese ground losses:
2118 casualties reported
Guns lost 27
Allied ground losses:
133 casualties reported
Guns lost 3
More to the South in HK the enemy lands more units and conducts an attack on the place getting 1:1 odds. The end of the heroic defense is near...
Ground combat at Hong Kong
Japanese Deliberate attack
Attacking force 42849 troops, 138 guns, 6 vehicles, Assault Value = 964
Defending force 16741 troops, 97 guns, 2 vehicles, Assault Value = 298
Japanese max assault: 940 - adjusted assault: 437
Allied max defense: 214 - adjusted defense: 400
Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 3)
Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 2
Japanese ground losses:
1257 casualties reported
Guns lost 23
Vehicles lost 1
Allied ground losses:
302 casualties reported
Guns lost 8
In the DEI region our subs are trying to hit more and more Jap transports. I assume that the 48th Div and units that have captured Macassar shall be moved somewhere... I vote for Batavia or Koepang. Subs redirected to the areas of interest.
Malaya
Mersing has fallen.[:(]
Burma
[8|] Sweeps over Mandalay 5:1 for the Jap.
Rangoon bombed by our B-17s scoring 15 runway hits. Pilots need some rest thou and the raids have been stopped for a few days. I don't want to lose these precious planes and the 20+ fatigue is not welcome.
Central Pacific.
Decision had been made to defend at Pago Pago and Fiji plus mend some defences at Canton in order to 'stretch' the ehemy lines a bit. 2nd Marines is probably going to start loading in the next 2 days and steam for Suva. A RCT that was scheduled for Canton is being moved to Pago Pago along with the 1st CD from PH.
A small bombardment of Baker is to be conducted... just for the sake of the pesky Commanders demanding some shooting... we shall check if mines are present [:D]

RE: 1/25/1942 Peace and quiet...
Gents
the 25th of January 1942 can be listed as one of the most quiet days since the beginning of the war. Not much happened but it was a bad omen so to say.... [:(]
Anyways
China
Canton gets bombed as usual. Dixie's keeps on pushing in the region of Sinyang but the odds are equal.
Ground combat at 49,33
Japanese Deliberate attack
Attacking force 88900 troops, 386 guns, 77 vehicles, Assault Value = 2004
Defending force 32816 troops, 145 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 830
Japanese max assault: 1702 - adjusted assault: 1230
Allied max defense: 856 - adjusted defense: 721
Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1
Japanese ground losses:
1339 casualties reported
Guns lost 8
Vehicles lost 1
Allied ground losses:
628 casualties reported
Guns lost 11
Burma
It seems that our bombardment of Rangoon made Dixie put Zeroes on CAP over the place which left our AVG squadrons repairing the damaged machines and resting after the few days of fighting. Our recon runs over Rangoon indicate over 40 planes on CAP including Oscars.
DEI
Usual enemy pounding of Batavia which unfortunately causes a lot of loses in our ranks.
Still no idea where Dixie shall go in the long run. I suppose Koepang could be his target to prevent some of my short legged planes the future evac from Soerabaja. But who knows... I don't have any forces to strenghten the place anyways.
Rest of the theatre was idle so to say... [;)]

RE: 1/26/1942 Hong Kong tragedy...
Gents,
We just lost contact with our forces at Hong Kong. We know from the last reports of the defenders that they were being pushed hard and the overwhelming numbers of enemy soldiers were unable to be stopped. It's a sad day for the Crown and the whole coalition... After almost two months of brave defense against the enemy, under heavy conditions, almost without supplies and ammunition... our brave Commonwealth soldiers made their last stand.... but despite the fact that the enemy had the full control over HK skies, despite the fact of the base being cut off from any help, despite the constant artillery barrages... we showed the Japs not to 'play' with the Canadians! [:D]

We shall come for our boys... sooner or later...

Raport from the rest of the theatre....
China
Fights still take place N of Sinyang as the enemy tries to crush our lines... reinforcements are en route... we hope that they'll make it in time...
Ground combat at 49,33
Japanese Deliberate attack
Attacking force 87493 troops, 371 guns, 77 vehicles, Assault Value = 1937
Defending force 31995 troops, 123 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 801

More artillery fun takes place in Yenan... the rest of the theatre is relatively quiet... time to evac our troops from Canton before Dixie cuts them off...

DEI
Some more action here today. As usual Batavia got bombed but... enemy planes located at Makassar raided Soerabaja today 1:1 it's not satisfactory thou... since we outnumberred the enemy...
Day Air attack on Soerabaja , at 23,66
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 13

Buffalo I x 3
P-40E Warhawk x 11
Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed
Allied aircraft losses
Brewster 339D: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged
Also Koepang was raided by Zeroes but this time we lost one Brewster with no enemy loses...

RE: 1/27/1942 Honk Honk...
Gents,
after the fall of Hong Kong the morale may not be great but we are still fighting.
DEI
Here not much happened except for SS Perch putting one torpedo into Kashiwara Maru. I assume that this the convoy with the 21st MixedBde. If so it should arrive to Java a bit weaker that the Japanese staff might have assumed it shall arrive. [;)] The our all time favourite O20 due to the taken damage yesterday is on its way to Singapore and later shall be transferred to India for meintance.
Here is also the map depicting the usage of our subs in the region.

Burma/India
Steady as she goes so to say. Recon flights over Rangoon still report a large number of enemy planes on CAP. We shall have to wait with sending our bombers and we shall do so when the enemy strikes, with Zero fighters, Mandalay again.
Also I-160 put a torpedo into AK Louisianan 60NM W of Diamond Harbour. Escorts retaliated with four hits on the sub putting her on fire.
We need to start escorting transports in the area.
China
First off all to add a small summary of Japanese loses in the HK operation when it comes to the JIN.
27, if we're not mistaken, ships lost in total during the minesweeping and landing operations, this include:
20 APs and AKs
4 MSWs
3 PCs
Japanese ground causalties are around 15-20k troops killed or wounded. This ae some rough estimates thou.
From the other news in this theatre..
We are pulling back out of Canton. The defense is pointless now that HK has fallen.
In the North Dixie is probably letting his troops rest as only some artillery exchange took place in Yenan and N of Sinyang.
Central Pacific and other areas...
Bombardment TF is now in the position to hit Baker Island.
First convoy of supplies reached Suva today. Pago Pago is expanding its airfield and defense lines.
In New Guinea we are still waiting for the enemy to strike PM but so far only air rides indicate that the enemy is not sleeping.

RE: 1/28/1942 Yenan Banzai Party...
Gents,
a quiet day for the whole theatre... well maybe not the whole as a whole but still quiet. Only our troops at Yenan had seen some action today.
Dixie shock attacked in the area... however I think it was not intentional... probably another division or a brigade crossed the river triggering a nice shoc attack which was a bit painful... for the attackers that is:
Japanese Shock attack
Attacking force 82275 troops, 368 guns, 1 vehicles, Assault Value = 2636
Defending force 52982 troops, 297 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1416
Japanese max assault: 484 - adjusted assault: 82
Allied max defense: 1475 - adjusted defense: 2010
Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 6)
Japanese ground losses:
1839 casualties reported
Guns lost 15
Vehicles lost 1
Allied ground losses:
180 casualties reported
Guns lost 4
That would be all when it comes to China.
Central Pacific
We were shooting turkeys at Baker Island. The place was not mined and it seems that the TF that we have spotted some time ago was rather to pick up troops from the place than to deliver any. Anyways Hanolulu with destroyers Alwin and Dewey hit a few the runway a few times and some supplies gathered in the port.

RE: 1/29/1942 AVG leads the way...
Gents,
a busy day with a lot of action in various places. So let us begin...
DEI
The enemy attacked our lines at Batavia. We expected our boys to put up a better fight but after all that bombardment they were exposed to.. I am not much surprised that on the first day of the attack the enemy already crushed some of our positions.
Here are the forces involved and the outcome of the attack.

Ground combat at Batavia
Japanese Deliberate attack
Attacking force 48362 troops, 303 guns, 69 vehicles, Assault Value = 952
Defending force 26278 troops, 162 guns, 26 vehicles, Assault Value = 423
Japanese max assault: 867 - adjusted assault: 279

Japanese ground losses:
1166 casualties reported
Guns lost 16
Vehicles lost 1
Allied ground losses:
1010 casualties reported
Guns lost 23

From the other news in the region Koepang was a target of enemy sweeps from Celebes. Lombok also became a target but for enemy LBs... does it suggest something?
Now, our part of the play. I intend to throw all my planes located on Java on the enemy ground units at Batavia... I hope that those good ol' Martins and a few RAF bombers can slow down the enemy a bit.
When it comes to sub warfare, our subs are in the position S and SW of Celebes... patrolling the routes to Koepang area... bombardment of Lombok suggest sending one or two subs to the area.

AVG leads the way so to say! Our 18 fighters fought the enemy sweep consisting of 24 Zeroes... [:'(] Well the final score was 5:5 what is a nice result. Since Dixie started to sweep Mandalay again we can start attacking Rangoon. A sweep of P40s, veterans from China is to commece the following day followed by a LBs raid. The Oscars shouldn't cause too much problem... but war is war and we shall see.[:)]
Concerning the Hurricanes that were to arrive... they finally did arrive as Hurricanes not Lysanders... but this is a one squadron.. should be five as far as I remember. Who cares... we shal crush the Imperialists sooner or later... with or without them. [:D]
Note to some CHS developers if any are reading this..
Please check if there is something wrong with the Hurricanes that should arrive in Aden in January... they did come as Lysanders...[:)]
China
Not much happening over here... we got some fighters to Yenan. The enemy is probablyt resting and the bad weather prevented most of the planned air activity for the day. Our forces have left Canton.
Malaya
A huge dissapointment... 20k troops surrendered on the first day of the enemy attack in Malacca... the spirit of the soldiers seems to be a bit low... it's sad thou since most of them won't probably survive the POW camps prepared for them by the enemy. [:(]
Singapore was raided by enemy planes. We have counted 54 enemy bombers and managed to shoot 5 down... not a bad result... I would start flying a bit higher if I were Dixie... and he will probably do so next time. I also wonder if he will try to starve the place or move into it as soon as possible in order to free the forces entangled in the fights around the region.
PM
The fun has started.... enemy Battleships and a convoy have been spotted by SS Shark 120 miles S of Port Moresby... we do not intend to defend the place... the forces are the ones that were present at the base from the beginning... we hope to evacuate the remaining Wirr*hit.
That would be all.[:)]
a busy day with a lot of action in various places.

Allied max defense: 426 - adjusted defense: 249
Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 4)
Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 3
Japanese ground losses:
1166 casualties reported
Guns lost 16
Vehicles lost 1
Allied ground losses:
1010 casualties reported
Guns lost 23
Vehicles lost 1
From the other news in the region Koepang was a target of enemy sweeps from Celebes. Lombok also became a target but for enemy LBs... does it suggest something?

Now, our part of the play. I intend to throw all my planes located on Java on the enemy ground units at Batavia... I hope that those good ol' Martins and a few RAF bombers can slow down the enemy a bit.
When it comes to sub warfare, our subs are in the position S and SW of Celebes... patrolling the routes to Koepang area... bombardment of Lombok suggest sending one or two subs to the area.

RE: 1/29/1942 AVG leads the way...
Please check if there is something wrong with the Hurricanes that should arrive in Aden in January... they did come as Lysanders...
Check your stocks of Hurris... quite frequently if they are low, a reinforcing unit will NOT have enough aircraft, so they drop back a step... Lysanders is bad enough, but they are semiuseful as dedicated recon. Another donwngrade you can expect is to have C-47s instead of Hurris (but i actually liked that one).
One time i had P-26 for scheduled P-40e's...[X(] [:(]Those are pretty much useless for anything... [8|]
