LV sound problem!!
Hi all, Just installed LV with latest patches. Problem is I don't have any radio broadcasts, or any other sound for that matter, during briefings. Don't know why? Any ideas? I don't want to miss out on the intelligence stuff. Thanks!!

Two possible issues:
1) You have nested sound folders, other than "Stream" which houses the .smk files. ALL the .wav files ought to be in the \Snd folder.
2) If you have experienced other sound problems in the play of WAW, try this: Go to MultiMedia in your Control Panel, open it and change the drivers: If you do not have "Game Compatible Device" selected, try that. I have one sound card and six or seven different possible driver settings. I found out about the "Game Compatible Device" when MS Train Sim would not play for more than five minutes without crashing - changing the sound driver setting cured the CTD.

Bing, No nesting going on here! I don't think its driver related either because I do have normal sound when playing the game. The radio sound files just don't play when I click "Read Reports and Select Options" or any other time for that matter. I can hear them only when I manually click on them in the \SND folder. The guy in Italy is having the same trouble- General Hoepner. I don't know? Thanks for replying though, I really appreciate it.

Did you try the old "delete steel.prf and rebuild a new one" trick?
Don't be too sure about sound drivers. Everything else at the time played just fine for me. Except MS Train Sim. What you got to lose by trying the "Game Compatible Device"? I assume you defrag and clean out the registry on a regular basis. Including ScanDisk and all that.

Bing, I posted a reply elsewhere in the forums about this sound trouble. I fixed it by trashing my SPWaWv7.1 installation, which I originally installed by way of MCWT CD, and re-installing using the LV CD, then patching with v7.1, LV sound patch, and LV v1.1 patch. Something is wrong with the Auto Run Installation program that came with the LV CD. It somehow overlapped with my WT installation, like a double exposure. Anyway, I'm playing LV with broadcasts!!! BTW I couldn't find "Game compatible device" anywhere. I'm running XP and SoundMAX. Thanks for the help!!!

Good, glad to know you've got the sound working. Installation packagers are giving a lot of publishers fits these days - including Auran and Trainz. I didn't know which OS you were running - the options are bound to be different in XP.
Now we are ready for the next sound problem,

Gen.Hoepner, I don't think it matters if you have WT or not. I highly suspect the problem has to do with the Auto Run Installation program on the LV CD. It apparently installed on top of my WT stuff and thereby screwed everything up. Having SPWaW v7.1 already installed I attempted to load ONLY the LV stuff from the LV CD. Result was no broadcasts and a messed up SPWaW Menu program; LV window superimposed over the SPWaW Menu window etc. What I did to correct was dump everything and re-install using the "Install SPWaW v7.0" option on the LV CD. Then load the SPWaWv7.1 patch, LV v1.1 patch, and LV Sounds patch. Everything works now. However, I have not attempted to re-install WT yet, so I don't know what will happen when I do. The culprit seems to be the installation program on the LV disk, not the LV stuff. Hope this helps.

Hoep-Cat: Did you completely uninstall ALL WAW files, from the "Matrix Games" folder on down? Did you scrub the registry via RegCleaner and RegDetective et al (there are several programs that do about the same thing: Get ALL the references, entries, empty keys and misc. junk out of your registry - this is iimportant for running everything on your system, not just the game). Then did you defrag and reinstall, MCNA, MC-W and finally MCLV? Making sure that the installations do not mess up the "Matrix Games" name?
(If the name has a space between the two words everything installed must also have that same space - if no space, ditto and you may have to change the destination directory from the installation software.)
If any of the above was omitted, you can have problems no matter what you do. At the very least use ScanReg /fix from the command line to rebuild the registry (assuming your OS allows you to boot to the command line, that is).

RedMike, what kind of audio card do you have? Is it one you installed or is it an onboard chip? I ask because I wonder how many "channels" are available for sound. Most on board chips allow only one channel-meaning only one device can use the audio device to produce sound. I have Sound Blaster Live Gamers 5.1 and have it set to 4 channels, theoretically I could listen to some music on my pc while playing SPWAW with all sound effects on-but that would be distracting. So, if you have only one channel available some other device could be controlling it. Let me know. David.

parusski,
I have a "SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio" card. BTW I fixed the sound problem with LV. It seems the Auto Run Installation program is the culprit. It mixed up with my WT installation and messed everything up. So I dumped all and re-installed using the LV CD. Now everthing seems to be working ok. Thanks!!!

Maybe memory leak?
I never got briefing sounds either, until I started saving prior to the last turn of a scenario, exiting SPWAW to free all associated memory (check with RamBooster or similar utility), restarting SPWAW, and loading saved scenario to play final turn. Now I always get briefing sounds when succeeding scenario starts.
