SBD Dauntless?

Post by gts2096 »

is the Dauntless good for naval attack or ground attack? i've noticed that the default bomb load is a 1000lb bomb. do people only send the devastator against enemy TF's with escorts of course?

Read "Incredible Victory" by Walter Lord or anything on Midway. That should give you a fair idea.:)

I've found that the P-39 Airacobra (or the P-400) are excellent anti-surface weapon systems as well.
Last time I checked, the forums were messed up. ;)

Drop your level bombers to 1000 ft to dramatically increase accuracy (and casualties). If you drop them to 100 feet they will strafe as well, but if the experience is less than about 75 they will also miss (see the manual for details).

Note that the DAUNTLESS is NOT a level bomber. Its a dive bomber. Don't confuse the two aircraft types. Dive bombers should attack from 10,000 feet. Always.

Beuforts and Beaufighters ahh :) If only I had more of them instead of the B-25's/26's!

Did US doctrine have something against a multi-engine torpedo bomber?

Not particularly. IIRC, the squadron of B-26's that attacked at Midway were armed with torps. The limitations in the game are more representative of the fact that you use bombs if your torpedoes suck. :)

Gah, the air dropped torps had the same problem as the early sub torps? Or were there other issues? I never knew the B-26's used air dropped torpedoes, good info there thanks!

We should have borrowed some of those British torps, man those things are great. I have 2 squadrons of Beauforts and a squadron of Beaufighter VIC's operating in a heavy shipping area and they can cause some havoc.

This game is awesome, here I am at work and dreaming of how I can better utilize my air assets.
