A question for VISTA users
I am determined to make this work for VISTA. I was talking to Mr. Winters and he has given me a suggestion for what might actually be wrong with my program when it comes to VISTA. So, to test his theory (which is probably right), I have a few questions.
Question #1: does the program install okay?
Question #2: if the answer to #1 was yes, then does the utility start after it is installed?
Question #3a: if the answer to #2 is no, what error message does it give (if any) when you try to run it.
Question #3b: if the answer to #2 is yes, at what point does the program not work?
Okay, thanks for those of you who reply!

The editor installs fine just like on XP. The problem is when you load it. I get this error mesage Componet 'MSFLXGRD.OCX' or one of its dependencies not corectly registered: a file is missing or invalid. Thanks JD for all your hard work on this editor. I really miss it since I got a Vista.

RE: A question for VISTA users
It looks like it get about 75% of the way installed and then I get the following error:
error 1904. Module C:\Windows\System32\maxfbtranspicture.ocx failed to register. HRESULT -2147024770. Contact your support personnel
So no, mine doesn't even install completely. It springs the error msg on me and then my only option is to back out of the install. If you can figure out a way to defeat the evil Vista, then God Bless You. [&o]

That is precisely what David said the problem would likely be. I will have to re-make the program without the transparent picture component that I am using. That should fix the problem.
I don't know why the hell it's messing up with this. That's just starting piss me off. I'll work on that, too.JD,The problem is when you load it. I get this error mesage Componet 'MSFLXGRD.OCX' or one of its dependencies not corectly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

I'm at work right now so I can't be sure, but I'm pretty sure the MSFLXGRD.ocx error is the one I'm receiving or a similar one. I'll have to get back home and see what it is for sure. Thanks for your dedication JD!

RE: A question for VISTA users
I was getting the same error until I followed the Vista error screen into the "details" area. Vista was more than happy to tell me that the program was looking for VB5 components "which no longer ship with versions of Windows".
Once I threw the VB5 components into the \system32 folder the installation went off without a hitch.

Whoa Whoa Whoa....
Wait, explain exactly what you did. Because the error you described is exactly what the problem is. The Tranparent picture is using VB5 components. I'd like to re-work it using only VB6 components, but until I get around to it, I would like to explain to other how to fix it.
Thanks sacjones!

RE: A question for VISTA users
Installing these on VISTA (or XP) ~might~ help.

I have not attempted to do this though. These would need to be installed prior to installing your utilities so that the OCX can register properly.

I'm assuming the game itself works for you on Vista?

OMG! It DID work for me. I just installed VB5 as David suggested and I now have JD's editor running in VISTA. Sweet!
Thank you, thank you, thank you.. [&o]

RE: A question for VISTA users
ok, I spoke too soon. I am getting a run-time error '5' when I try to save. Bummer. Still it's nice to see the program up there on my screen, and hopefully this is something that can be easily resolved (maybe? please?).
Thanks for all of your hard work on this JD! Excellent program.

RE: A question for VISTA users
No, No, no. that's normal. I made a mistake in the code with the latest release. When you save a database, it re-loads the database with the saved information. However, I accidentally deleted part of the code this last release, so after you save the databse, it crashes when trying to reload the database. However, it still works correctly and saves the database. It's only when re-loading that it crashes. But the database HAS been saved correctly.ORIGINAL: leeman67

But, long story short, you must have gotten it to work correctly, so good job! [:D]

RE: A question for VISTA users
Awesome! That's great news JD. I'll keep at it then. Thanks again!

RE: A question for VISTA users
I finally got to try the suggestions here. I was stumbling during the install on the maxfbtranspicture.ocx error as well. But, installing the VB runtime did the trick! Thanks everyone, for helping us get this running. One step closer to getting my league going!

RE: A question for VISTA users
I'll chime in with my experiences. I run Vista Ultimate 64 on my main PC. The utility installed without error; but I get an error about tabctl32.ocx not being registered when i try to run it. I did run the VB installer. I get this same error with another popular game, Action Football. I even tried to register the control, as it does exist on my HD, and it said it succeeded; however, I still get the same error.
To those running Vista and are running this OK, is that the 32 bit version; or the 64-bit version?

RE: A question for VISTA users
Hi Zaphod.
Does the game work on 64Bit Vista? It should work in theory, but I'm afraid it's not something I've had a chance to try.
Microsoft's support for this language on 64bit OS' is detailed here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vbrun/ms788708.aspx According to this document that particular OCX is supported but there could be some dependency it needs that isn't on your system.
Probably doesn't help you I'm fraid but maybe it's at least confirmation that, according to Microsoft, it should be working.
thanks
David

RE: A question for VISTA users
Yes, the game works very well on Vista 64. It probably is a dependancy that doesn't exist; but i have no idea what that dependancy is. That is what frustrates me, as I have heard others were running both fine on Vista. I was just curious if it was a difference in the 32 vs 64 bit versions.
I'll have to do some more digging to see what I can find.
Thanks!
