Isn't it time Matrixgames picked up these type of wargames?
Manassas was a wargaming masterpiece and a milestone in wargaming as far as I am concerned.
It just worked on most levels. Fantastic immersion while still having decent AI and challenging scenarios. Sid Meiers Gettysburg did the same but earlier.
I wonder why there are so few of these wargames though. I would easily buy everything those guys did. Doesn't matter if it's Civil War, Red Coats era, Napoleonics or something similar.
Give us more. I am starting a similar campaign Punk Reaper for this game type.
Anyone with me?

Nah, you're all alone on this one. hehehehehe
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik!
and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?
RE: More games like T2C Manassas/Sid Meier Gettysburg
Seems like it has some time left in development but I guess it's better than nothing.
Just wondering why Matrixgames doesn't favour these games.

I think Mad Minute did approach Matrixgames, but, MG wasn't willing to donate as much front money as they wanted. One of the MM bunch forget which one wanted his cake an eat it to with the first release. lol So, they went with Activision and got tossed to the wolves with "Activision Value" games. Then they got unleashed from that contract and signed with Paradox and Paradox apparently promised them the moon and didn't deliver on anything. I hardly saw it advertised, it had a small back room Paradox forum (which hardly anyone participated in) and from what I can gather from just the developer comments MM 2nd Manassas didn't do too well in the sales department. Now one of them has or had a serious cancer problem and so everything slowed down to a crawl and I don't know if they are going to make it out with another NEW release or not. It's almost like they've turned the code over to the community with some of the latest mods out like "Fredricksburg" (have you seen/played that one? It's pretty nice". There's not as much banter out of them on their official site as there used to be either. It's like they went back to their day jobs.
They are a couple of guys with a great talent for creating a real time game that actually plays in real time and not a kiddy clickfest. But, they just wanted too much too fast and welp as Erik says the Wargame part of the industry just isn't what it used to be. I like their engine and gameplay 100x better than HTTR or COTA though and would stand inline for their next release if they ever produce one. They may turn out to be like some of these bands, you know the "One Hit Wonders" they play on tv every once in awhile.
Maybe they aren't so head in the air types any longer and maybe they will try to cut a deal with MG again sometime in the future. I've always said you've got to "crawl" before you can "walk". Well I haven't always said that, my parents sure said it enough though. lol

TC2M is really a masterpiece, a really well done grand-tactical wargame for Solo-Play, the AI is really challenging.
More games like TC2M will be really appreciated

Personally...
I believe that MMG's first game, The Civil War: Bull Run, was a much better game to play than TC2M.
TC2M was essentially an upgrade in graphics and system performance by changing their image rendering system. Beyond that, not much difference except that Open Play was totally screwed as the system showed it could not handle large quantities of troops on the battlefield.
If you liked scripted scenarios, for which TC2M was chock full... than you will like the game. If you like random battles, CWBR is a a far superior game.
Overall, it appears that MMG is dead and that Norbsoftware is some sort of offshoot from the original development team.
However, for those who do like this type of game, it looks like 2008 may have two new offerings. The first is Hist War: Los Grognards by Battlefront and the second, is under development by The Lordz Games Studio in conjunction with Slitherine Software carrying the cryptic name of LOWN.
My bet... Slitherine hits a home run.

Hi Ray,
I remember seeing you at MMG's game forum for TC2M.
I never played the first game so to me the second game was mind blowing.
It's too bad they aren't making anymore games.
Regards,
Grell

Hi Grell,
I was a tester with the original crew that put out CWBR. I left MMG as they began work on TC2M.
Marvelous system and game, but had, IMO, some problems which restricted its appeal to a greater audience.
The MMG folks are real "garage" type kinda guys, and just didn't have the resources which were required to take the game that one big step forward which could have made all the difference.

Hi Ray,
Wow I didn't know you were a beta tester, sheesh.
I kinda figured MMG was a basement type operation, all the reviews complained about the graphics, which irritated me to no end.
I hope Adam is well.

Grell

I helped in testing the Horse and Musket Mod for TC2M, i found the game so good that i enjoied being of help.
Regarding the topic, even the Sid Meier's ones are really good and even Waterloo Nap's last battle and Austerlitz Nap's greatest victory

RE: More games like T2C Manassas/Sid Meier Gettysburg
Well, it was a valiant effort nevertheless. From what I hear there might be more.
All I am saying is that Matrixgames should embrace these type of wargames. They have a following.
I fail to see what Slitherines games has in common with Manassas though. It's a grand strategic game(made in Java for some reason).

I would pay an exorbitant amount for an ancient-setting wargame in the MMG style... *hint hint*
Just for the love of goodness PLEASE no generic units (light infantry, heavy infantry, skirmishers, etc- give them their proper NAMES from the period!), and no fantasy monsters or magic!

Truly wasteful to let MMG engine sit on mothballs.
Not a big fan of ACW but I did enjoyed the AWI mod along with the game play.

Hi Sarge,
Yes it is a waste of a good engine.

It they want the game to sell it needs to be 3D.A 2D strategy game is never going to make big sales these days not matter the publisher.Paradox actually got the coverage for the game on huge sites like Gamespot.

Are you referring to Commander: Napoleon at War?
I'm referring to LOWN, which is basically a tactical battle game set in a Operational environment.
From the Lordz site:
LOWN (Working Title)
Watch the Artillery Movie - Note: This is NOT ingame footage
* Command large armies in epic real time battles on full 3D battlefields.
* Take control of the armies from at least 10 different nations including - France, Britain, Russia, Austria, Prussia, Ottoman Empire, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Portugal...
* Over 150 unique unit types, each with their own statistics, models and textures including - French Old Guard, British Riflemen, Austrian Hussars, Prussian Landwehr, Russian Cossacks and Ottoman Janissaries.
* Watch units become more experienced and personalise them with names such as "Les Braves" or the "The Black Watch".
* Replay the great wars of the Napoleonic era in a series of dynamic strategic campaigns, including - Austria 1805, Prussia 1806, The Peninsular Campaign, Russia 1812 and The Waterloo Campaign.
* Real formations including 2 or 3 Rank Line, March or Assault Column, Square or Skirmish formation.
* Learn how to use the strengths and weaknesses of each unit type and combine it with formations.
* Terrain and the environment have realistic effects on units: cavalry are weak in woods, light infantry are more vulnerable in the open, hills and creeks provide cover against artillery fire...
I think it could very well rock.
