On disband cancel all air missions - AE

Post by Cavalry Corp »

Another thing it would be nice that when a TF disbands to a base that all air mnisions are set to rest
Its pretty time consuming landing every FB by hand and will save a lot of time

I really don't understand what you mean - carriers disbanded in port do not fly their aircraft. If they all got set to rest, then they would all have to be set back to missions by hand later on when a TF was reformed - lots more work.

I think that FPs do fly when a ship is disbanded in port.

I don't think they fly if ships are disbanded - but when a TF is formed and even if it is docked in port they do fly.

My main reason for this was to save ops losses as mainly you do not need CA and BB to launch these missions whilst disbanded and maybe they should not be able to do it anyway IF they are

Nope, disbanded a/c will continue to fly missions. I have more than once disbanded IJN CV's at Singapore only to have my a/c launching strikes on allied bases while disbanded in port. Try it sometime, set the Vals and Kates on airfield attack with no target set or even with a target set and you will see the fly missions while disbanded.

I have never seen it, but 2nd ACR has seen it. That's the best answer we can give you.

Early 1942 I had 4 US carriers disbanded at Port Moresby. When the Japanese attacked Port Moresby with a carrier TF my carrier planes (bombers and torpedo planes set to Naval Attack / 10% air search, fighters to 60% CAP) attacked the japanese carriers with great effect. Landbase airplanes also joined in the battle, but there were several hits by torpedoes which only could have come from my carrier planes. There were - at this time - no torpedo planes landbased at Port Moresby.
First I was shocked to be caught off guard, but next move I formed a carrier TF which was desperatly short of planes, and finished the Japanese TF. Phew ...
Had the program not launched the planes from the disbanded US carriers this could have turned into a disaster for me (Allies) instead of a sort of Midway for the Japanese.

PS: I always disband TFs in port, hoping to catch one or two of those elusive Repair Points [;)]

EDIT for spelling.

Well then how come I keep getting messages saying the OS2Us and SOCs on BBs, CAs & CLs that start the game disbanded in port @ PH are spotting and/or attacking IJN subs operating around Hawaii? I can even give them orders to switch from search to ASW or back, and they will fly, all while their host ship is disbanded in port.

I've also seen messages saying RN Walrus' are spotting IJN TF off the coast of Malaya. The only Walrus' in Malaya are based on PoW & Repulse, and they start disbanded in port as well.
