The AI Playing Tired Players

Post by KG Erwin »

This seems to be consistent, and certainly adds to the injury levels. Even in a historical roster association, the AI is reluctant to let everyday position players get any rest. Perhaps this is the way it works in real-life, so maybe I'm out of line.

My current association is just one month into the season, and I'm already seeing this. As a matter of fact, an opposing pitcher's injury notification was "xxxx aggravated an existing injury" That guy ended up on the 60-day DL.

Is the AI's desire to win despite the consequences overriding common-sense choices? I could see this in the post-season, but not during the long regular-season campaign.

I don't wanna win a pennant simply because I know when to rest players. Do I have a legitimate concern, or am I simply too soft-hearted? [&:]

I've noticed the same thing. I think it's a legitimate concern.

KG,

I've experienced a similar thing, but in those cases, the player was tired because there was no one else to fill his position. For example, a red-colored Exhausted catcher is starting because the team doesn't have another catcher in their major league roster. I've mentioned this to Shaun before so I'm confident it's on his 16-mile list of Things To Look Into.

For what it's worth, I only RECALL seeing it on my real player association, but it may have happened on fictional as well.

I think I have at least a partial solution to this issue.  The game will let you edit the Manager/GM Tendencies even for teams being managed by the computer.  The first tendency option is "Auto Rest player condition is:".  You can set this whatever fatigue level you'd like.  The default is "When Worn Out (or worse)".   If you set it instead to "When Tired (or worse)", "When OK (or worse)" or "When Good (or worse)" I think the AI will make the necessary lineup substitutions to at least keep tired players out of the starting lineup.

I've seen this as well, while managing against the AI. One thing that could definitely use a tweak. The AI somehow needs to realize when a team is playing a doubleheader. At minimum, the poor catcher should only go one game most of the time. Teams will usually have at least 3-4 players not starting both games.

I've never seen the AI take this into account, at all. Add one more to the list, please. [;)]
