I do wonder how Matrix came up with the idea that a Pacific War game would have a larger market than a European War Game?

My wild guess is they saw UV and liked it a lot, and will support WitP because it will use a similar game engine from UV. Besides, this is Gary Grigsby we're talking about. They'd be a fool not to team up with him. :)

Just thought I would bump this up again given that UV is out, and by all accounts is a great game (mine included as I have a copy). I understand that matrix is now fairly deep into coding witp, and was just wondering if there is any new news on the WIR III front.

Apologies to those of you who are annoyed by my continual beating of this particular drum.....:p

I like to beat this drum too, but I don't want to get the Matrix people annoyed. I've asked them only twice about WIR3, the last question in the general purpose forum got David's response here, but I don't see any point in asking this soon again, after all, WitP isn't out yet. When WitP does arrive, that will be the time to ask again. If Matrix is going to pick up WIR3, my guess is it won't be until WitP is close to done. David knows the interest in WIR3 here I think, his boss may not I fear, but he knows.

Time to ressurect the WIR III question

Post by ladner »

I know the familar refrain by now, but have there been any rumors or hints of a WIR III? I vaguely remember hearing about a UV Mediteranean being planned before WIR III, I think the thread is somewhere in WITP Struggle Against Japan forum. Of course the 2by3 web-site is rarely updated with game info.

WIR III

Despite playing nearly 100 strategy computer games over the years, WIR by far is still my favorite. I'd gladly pay even to beta test the game, bring it on!!!

Yeah, imagine the concept of WIR streched out to all of Europe. Now that would be the ultimate all time winner wargame.

I think including France and enabling Italy would be enough. In a corps level game, I don't think the battles of Rommel could be done justice. He was just so busy slashing about. Any player with the 8th Army in his hands would be able to squash the pittance that the Germans actually sent there. Better kept as an abstract until Italy is invaded.

What I'd like to see would be more player control in creating and disbanding units, or selecting quality versus quantity.

There was that other game...I played the demo...where you actually created units. It was just farrrrrrrr too abstract for me.

The only thing I would leave out would be Naval combat. Geographically I would include both North Africa, Spain, Norway, Britain and Turkey. Why not?
Who knows how strong the British 8th army would be, since it's up to the Allied Player how to manage it.
I don't think we have ever seen such a game (hex-grid, corps sized units, one week per turn) covering the whole of Europe.
