Women WWII pilots to be honoured

i wonder if they were drafted or all volunteers, or perhaps a mix of both? Also wonder if any famous ww1 pilots were in (those not perished during ww1 that is)

The women were all volunteers, in fact they had to push harder than men to be accepted. Don't get the WW1 comment - or did you mean the men of the ATA?

I think he was wondering if any pilots from WWI that may be well known flew for ATA. Good question because most of them would probably have been beyond acceptable age for piloting aircraft in combat of WWII.

Good point about the Women pilots. Today we still live the "Good Life", Freedom and Liberty provided us by the sacrifice and efforts of that generation and any real hardships on the level that generation dealt with is pretty much unknown to subsequent generations.

sry late comment. Yes i ment if ww1 pilots were flying for ATA during ww2. Thinking of it, they might have even flown in ordinary combat units if their age would have been around 40.. or transport etc.

Some of them scored twice. Those were Fw. Zwesken and Maj. Lindenberger. It the case of second named, it was great success, because he was veteran from WWI with 12 victories. On this day he claimed 2 US bombers but ended WWII with 4 victories.
