Losing Planes on AKs

In one of my pbems (unfortunately, not the pbem against AuTiger [;)] ) I recently staged a successful sneak attack by the KB on a number of Allied transport TFs. When I checked the INTEL screen for Air Losses afterwards I was surprised to see 72 P-40Es lost due to "Operational Losses" during that turn.

Now, despite all my gripes about the effects of Weather on game play, I can't imagine a situation in which either side could lose 72 fighters of the same type due to flying the planes in storms. (At least I certainly hope it isn't possible! [X(] ) So I am guessing that my opponent had a Fighter Group on board one of those AKs that I sank.

Assuming that this is the case, why did the Game assign the losses to "Operational" losses? When planes go down with CVs, or floatplanes with their ships, the losses are assigned to "Ground" losses.

In any event, it will be nice not to have to deal with those P-40s in the air. I should go Ship-Hunting in the South Pacific more often. [:D]

Planes onboard ships, even onboard carriers are listed as OP's loss when their AK/CV gets sunk.
 
Ground losses ONLY include planes lost on the ground, not planes lost at sea.

Planes lost on the ground or on ships due to aerial bombing will be spawned again at a later date, can't be exactly sure on how many days it takes though. I think it might be 180 days or so.

I was the unfortunate recipient of said KB raid in the Noumea area, and it was the no less then the 49th fighter group that went down with the ship. A pretty heavy blow considering my overall lack of everything in the SoPac.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the 49th reentered the pipeline and will be back in 89 days, wasnt sure that groups lost in this way would reform.

Anyways, Dive continues to teach me many valuable lessons, albeit the hard way haha.

That is unusual. You would think they would still be there, unless the ship get's sunk.

Well the ship carrying the 49th FG to Aussie land was sunk...as a matter of fact the tf the ship was in ended up 1 hex away from the sneaky KB with obvious results.
