Captured factories

Post by Von Cone-on »

Greetings from the front
My question is about the effect of capturing soviet factories on the german war machine. Does it make a difference to the growth of german factories & is there any correlation between capturing a particular type say heavy industry & the growth of german heavy industry

No effect on factories. Only captured resources and oil count.
take care

Hi Maciej
Thanks for the info a bit dissappointing though doesn't give the germans much incentive to try & grab equipment when historically they snatched up as much goodies as they could or like the czech tank factoriy used it in place

I might like to see a percentage of heavy industry be "capturable", but I'm not so sure about the equipment factories. We know the Germans used captured Soviet equipment, but did they rebuild Soviet factories with Soviet labor to produce Soviet equipment for their use? We know a lot of what the Soviets couldn't take with them, they destroyed before leaving.

The most I know about Soviet factories is that in Feb 1943 the Soviets recaptured Kharkov and started assembling T34s there - by the time the SS Panzer Korps recaptured it 1 month later, they found enough partially completed tanks that they completed them with parts on hand and equiped Das Reich with a significant number that lasted until fall of the year. To me, this more supports the original owner getting production back sometime than the capturing side. Normally this did not happen either, but in Kharkov was not destroyed like Stalingrad, although heavy fighting occurred, so I guess I would say at best, equipment factories should only come back rarely for the friendly side.

Hi All
I'm not sure how much they used factories in place but didn't they capture some factories that were loaded onto trains by the soviets. Maybe I just presumed they would have taken heavy equipment back to germany to use there. Anyway as a gameplay device it would be nice to get a boost if you succeed in grabbing installations

Interesting idea. Lets say a fifty-fifty chance of a factory returning after being recaptured with a two month delay in production. I wonder how hard that would be to setup?

Getting your factories back? Seems to me it'd have to be a highly random and less-than-likely occurence.
As for the Germans shipping back the factories to europe...the trains were busy doing other things...supplies one way, and soldiers on leave, or wounded going the other.
EVEN if they could ship them back...everything would have to be retooled, and probably more difficult than building the machinery at home. They didn't all use the same size ball bearings;)
Jesus ...., with all respect. This closet germanism is allways killing me.

I agree about returning your own to production, maybe a random number of turns until the factory returns, weighted toward 256 turns, which is the current setting (close to that anyway). The game keeps track of the current "lost" factories by setting the delay to something like 256, so this should be doable on recapture, based on the city's nationality setting, when it is recaptured.

Regarding opponent factories captured, maybe the best solution would be a 1 turn boost to heavy industry, which would basically increase the chance of existing factories growing more quickly. That would probably be a fair use of whatever relatively small impact the Soviet captured industry provided.
