Should I buy it ?

Empires in Arms is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. Empires in Arms is a seven player game of grand strategy set during the Napoleonic period of 1805-1815. The unit scale is corps level with full diplomatic options

Anyone with experience with 1.01 have any comments with how improved the game is?  Are most bugs solved and are PBEM games currently playable beyone the first few turns?

It's an order of magnitude better. I haven't had a full-game crash since installing it.

Plus, many of the interface gotchas are corrected. There even seems to have been some slight upgrades to the AI, despite them telling us it wasn't a priority.
At LAST! The greatest campaign board game of all time is finally available for the PC. Can my old heart stand the strain?

I would buy it if you can, cost about one night out at a nice restruant or 5 trips to McDonalds for two; and is better for your wast.  If you never played either of the two EIA boardgames or Empires in Harm; you will enjoy playing and learning about this truly unique wargame' people still  talk about how they played various games of it decades ago. The Matrix EIA AI if you are not a vetern Eia play will give you enough of a challenge, at least once for each of the countries.  I am sure Matrix will continue to improve the AI and varous other aspects of the game.  The big thing that we are promised is a senario editor, it hopefully will allow some of us to make senarios similar to what was in the Avilion Hill version, and the one published in their and other wargame magazines; and make them available to us.  It would be nice to play some of those two and three player games.  In my opion, there is excellent replay value in this game already and this will improve it.  It seemed to take me about 30 hours to play a game in its current grand campaign senario, so you can see it is value per the amount played.

Pbem can be very, very slow.   [:(]   Not the game its self but getting 7 players together and on the same sheet of music.  So.............................Buy it now and learn, matrix has always worked hard to update.  The price probley will not go down anytime soon.

It really depends on if you can afford it...
right now the game is not really playable agaisnt the AI and PBEM is a little wonky due to some of the rule implemetations.

but if you have money to spare and want to work to improving the game ... go right ahead.
otherwise wait

OK ! thank you for your responses guys !

I actually just decided to buy it. I am currently downloading. In fact I was waiting for this game from the early beginning, at least 5 years from now ...

I couldn't resist the temptation to have it. I hope I won't regret.
I'll let you know :-)

But seriously, this game is a lot of fun.

There are a bunch of subtleties that I'm just now discovering.

I'm eager to see the AI when it gets tweaked.

But I'm also getting interested in trying PBEM. You can never underestimate the darker side of human nature.

I hope you enjoy this game as much as I'm starting to.

Also have a look at the start-up pointers Ralegh just posted. They can save you some time surfing the learning curve. Look for Ralegh Guide: Tips here in the forums.

Ok, I now better understand the answers above.

It's a real mess and unplayable.

I'm in the middle of a game with the 1.02 patch and things have picked up noticably.

My opinion now shifts from negative to neutral.... interesting game with all of the previous exploits (that I had discovered) fixed, but the AI could still be improved.

At this pace, I'll be a supporter by patch 1.03

Yop,

Yes, If you like EIA and you hope to play it by mail, you have to buy it :).

Why, simply because no compagny in the world will pay developpement of a game with a so short perspective of winning money :).
Be realistic, who play EIA, not so much people.

I suspect that EIA matrix wasn't a real project, except for Monadman.
Actually he have build a first release of this game, as we all know it isn't completly finish, but as we bought it, play and test it, the game become better and better, and Matrix get money so Monadman and other guy can work on it.

For playing against AI : for I, it seem crazy, how can you play diplo against computer, maybe dealing memory upgrad for sweden :). So EIA is only a 7 humans game, and it's one of the best diplomatic game actually made.
We have to wait fully stable game and after maybe more option (Italian kingdown and other, dominat status for prussia, austria,...)
After maybe, some possibility to play via IP.
And later better AI maybe... But having a good AI for diplomatic game is a realy big work and certainly more, for a not so good AI at last...

So if you like EIA boardgame, YES you have to buy EIA computer game :).

Julien.

Julien,

You meant to say Marshall here, but I still plan to remain “real” until my last breath. [8D]

Thanks
