games like witp benefit most by the processing power of the cpu and to a lesser extent the amount of RAM you have available, the higher the better.
Don't worry too much about video card.

The RAM thing is probably more likely 1Gb minimum, 2Gb recommended. The more, the better.

If you use Vista 2GB are essential, not only for the game...[8|]

And if you're using Vista... WHY? Why would you do that?

I've got a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 duo with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and 256 MB VRAM. Is that good enough?

It's nearly identical in stats to mine, so it should be just fine.

I should add that it's a MacBook Pro. 8)

nice machine herwin, That will do nicely.
I run an Intel C2D E6600@2.4ghz and the same RAM although overclocked to 1ghz.[;)] I am a bit of an enthusiast.
Running 8400GS, great card for under $50 btw if you play games like Medieval Total War 2 or Oblivion for instance.

I've been running beta test versions of AE and it runs without a hitch on all my machines.  This computer is:

CPU - 1.6 Ghz
RAM - 1 GB
Video RAM - 32 MB

The video card is 2001 vintage.

The thing that is most critical is the RAM.  I have run it fine on a computer with 512 MB, but it performed better when I upgraded the RAM to 1 GB.  I also have my firewall outside the computer, so my computer isn't bogged down with a lot of anti-virus stuff.  With anti-virus stuff running in the background, that will increase the CPU and, to a lesser extent, the RAM needs.

Basically any new computer you buy today will have enough resources to run AE.  Though with Vista, RAM might be tight unless you have a lot of it.  Vista is a major memory hog.

Good news for me, since I just bought my latest upgrade I far exceed the minimum requirements.

RAM is always the key, the more RAM you have, the smoother any game will run.

I'm sure that's still official, but we all know that systems requirements can be somewhat faith-based.

I made the estimate for the minimums/recommendeds many moons ago - now that we have a fairly complete game - we can do utreal testing - we will probably revise the numbers when we release the game. But as has been pointed out an OS like VISTA will actually have higher requirements than the game. VISTA is 2G on RAM. What are the options? After next March, Microsoft believes it will make it impossible for us to buy non-VISTA MS OS. This actually drives us real world computer managers so seriously contemplate alternatives, like running Cytrix farms and going more to a centralized memory pool with desktop appliance. I doubt we can get rid of "Billyware" completely but we think about it. VISTA focuses us on those thoughts.

But yes, WITP/AE will run on VISTA.

I bought my computer off advice from a good friend I never had any trouble before just used it for games and browsing the internet really. It cost about 750 squids. I know I got 150 GB of hard memory from clicking on the properties on the C drive, but how do I find out how much of the other stuff I have got? Ramdom access memory? CPU? and graphics card?. It's a proper dumb question I know but you don't know until you learn.

You can get all that data by running a small Windows program called dxdiag.

If you get a MacBook Pro, go for the big hard drive. You can then use Bootcamp to create a 32GB Windows partition. The Mac can't read NTFS, so use FAT32. You need to buy the Windows OS separately. If you go with XP, make sure you get a full system, not an upgrade, and make sure it has SP2. You can also run Vista.
