This AAR is closed - a polite request
For those who are not aware, one of the top AARs with 41+ thousand hits has suddenly closed. The manner of the closure smacks of the writer being told to close it or else.
The closure has, in itself generated a great deal of comment within the ARR (despite it being closed.)
Having followed it from the start(almost)I am most disappointed it has had to stop. In all of it there has been a great deal of good humour, a very honourable approach from the writer of the AAR despite some odd things happening.
As I understand it, someone has told the writer either to close the AAR or the game cannot continue. This is leading to all sorts of speculation as to why this has happened. To me there are three reasons why this may have happened....
1. A moderator has decided it should be so.
2. The opponent of the AAR has decided it should be so - on the basis of information sent to them by a person or persons unknown who is reading the AAR and selectively passing information back to the opponent.
3. The opponent, despite it being a 'closed' AAR has been reading it and taken exception to what is being said in it.
Given there is a lot of speculation continuing, I do feel it would be best that whoever has demanded its closure should make it clear to us the reason for this so we can understand and move on. As I'm assuming they are unable to read the comments being made within the AAR I have posted this in the hope whoever it was will respond. It may be its a cultural/ language thing, who knows, but it would be nice to know so we can avoid these problems in the future.
I do think this is a very important issue. Many of us read and write the AARs putting a lot of our time into it. To have a precedent being set like this one is worrying.
This is not a witch hunt, this is not the start of a flame war. This is, as the title says, a polite request.

I agree it would be nice to hear the reasons, Roger. I really hope this polite effort of yours is taken in the manner it was intended and does not degenerate.

I cannot imagine that a moderator has intervened:
(1) no obvious grounds exist for such intervention,
(2) moderators always make an announcement when they intervene (a) to announce their action and (b) to explain what consituted the objectionable behaviour and thus prevent it from reoccurring.
Consequently that leaves the other 2 possibilities mentioned by Roger Neilson II. Either one is quite objectionable.
If peeping into his opponent's AAR (inter alia) was sufficient to get Marky banned last year, why should similar behaviour here not warrant some action from the moderators.

I second that.
And GH can keep cool and doesn't even need to come over here and say anything, we are not waiting any clue from him. [;)]

I am politely imploring that we get the true reason for the closure, as I am confused to what happened? If someone can't continue a game or concedes; that is understandable, but this? We are left to theorize a variety of circumstances, most of which cast one party in a unfavorable light. While I will freely admit that I am not owed an explanation; common courtesy demands one.

It was not the actual peeking at and/or posting in the AAR thread that got Marky banned. It had to do with posting a PM from a moderator.
But - yes I would like to know why the good General had to stop his AAR - it was a very interesting one.

You all know Troll will not respond to this. I have yet to even see him lurking online since he got busted looking at Nemo's AAR.
I would like to here how he justifies GH ending his AAR though.

I would just like to point out that I eventually gave up my previous sign on for this forum and cunningly disguised myself as another totally separate person! Few people have seen the similarity between my previous character and my new one such is my guile and audacity! My previous character is still usable. Thus it is hypothetically possible to lurk as another character and visit anywhere you choose... as long as you remember who you should be and when. Personally I have enough trouble remembering who I am anyway!
At the end of the day this whole forum exists on honourable behaviour and trust between people. Sure we have healthy debates..... and sometimes it gets a little heated. But when all is done, we continue to work together for the good of the game.

Are you drinking Roger? You seem to be getting all touchy-feely. I might join you and raise a glass to Gentleman GH, the most patient and honourable man I know! (virtually)

Well you're all welcomed to read my AAR with Floyd G ....when he gets back from Disney [and we restart] and give me tons of advice. Since I did a ton of things half a$$ed during football (american) season while I was coaching. Plus you can give him advice too, just make sure you give ME better advice then you give him!
But on a serious note Roger I too am disappointed by the current situation for I enjoyed reading that AAR and was learning alot about the game and tactics from both players.

I don't know. Part of the deal with GH is that we would trade advices for Italian chicks. The same with Pauk, who promised to provide us with free-champagne holidays in Split.
Can you keep it up with that kind of deal mate? Advisors are expensive those days.

I know a few guys who always think the sun is over the yardarm, and no, they don't work at night so it's fair to assume they are true alcoholics.[;)]
It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?
