Larger 2D Map

Post by hueglin »

This question is for Jason, or any modder who thinks they might be able to do this.

I like the 2D maps but I find that the largest one is still too small to want to play on most of the time.

I like the large 3D map but find the smaller ones of much less use.

Is there any way to take one of the smaller 3D map views and change it so that it is a larger 2D map view. I would like the hexes and counters to be about twice the size of the current ones on the large 2D map. I'd really like to get a look that is close to the PanzerBlitz/Panzer Leader games in terms of hex size and counter look.

I am hopeful this is possible.

I would imagine it is possible, yes. At least the terrain element anyway. The unit icons would be a little more challenging.

It would require a huge amount of work as new graphics would be required.

Thanks for the input Jason,

would it be easier if one just used generic NATO map symbols (infantry, armour, artillery) instead of the individual vehicle silhouettes as in Panzerblitz?

I did a real quick test, yes the terrain can be enlarged, but requires ALL terrain(roads, etc) for each level to be enlarged also. It appeared to auto-enlarge the unit graphic... Would be a lot of work, I doubled the size of the largest 3d to test it, was quite BIG!!

There are NATO map symbols already (you can access them in the Options menu, I believe)

As a matter of fact those 2D Maps are resizing with every map (size) individually to some extent AKA Bigger maps=smaller hexes. So if you want a certain size of Hexes it seems difficult to guarantee that all over the game to me.

Set compatibility for program to run in 640 x 480. Played most of the day with it set this way today. Really enjoyed it. Has anyone played around with changing the look of the game counter?
