AAR-smalltalk corner
So...I figured we could use a thread to hang out in where all players can sit and talk about their games without fog-of-war issues and threads closed for the opponent.
For example, in here I can ask Castor where the heck my turn is? Or I can ask you all what you think of a certain situation.
Today, I have a question. Me and Castor have been talking alot about Japanese bomber ASW-efficiency. The reason is that my Helens are bringing the US submarine fleet to its knees. Is this right or wrong? I use my Helens on ASW at 6k, and I only use them for ASW duty. The reason is I have no use for them in any other form right now. Ive tried before to put them on the frontlines of Burma or Darwin, but all they managed to do was to be shot down in droves. Therefore Im pulling them off frontline duty and put them on ASW instead. Here they can operate without fear of allied airpower, and they do a really good job at containing the USN subs.
So...should we have this AAR-corner? If you guys think this is a good idea, this thread will remain here. If not, it will drop like a rock from the first page. [:(]

I can answer where your turn is: it´s in my inbox at home, while I´m 40 km away in the office and won´t be at home until 6pm earliest.
Regarding the Helens. I think that there are just too many of them on ASW. Before your statement I only thought that there must be hundreds of them, now I know you use ALL of them! [X(][X(][X(]

Work work work...you should be a lawyer like me and just play while at the office.
Well, of cource I have all my Helens on ASW...but only 250-something have experience above 75. You only have to fear those bombers...the others with exp around 60 are not dangerous at all to your subs..

I pretty do the same thing with my IJAAF bombers by late 42-early 43. They are not survivable anywhere except China. They may as well be used for something useful. I especially like using the Lilys for this purpose. It preserves the pilots, who can then fly Randys later in the war to help tear up the Allied air force.

Exactly!
If you put the Japanese bombers on front-line duty, they just die. No matter what mod, they just die. Repeatedly and in agony. Its the same with the Bettys, unless you mass them in 100+ numbers they just impale themselves on the CV CAP wherever the allies decide to show up in range. What else is there to do with your bombers than to have them defend the convoy-lines?

I would like to point out a few disagreements with your strategy Panzer. Although Japanese bombers are not as robust as allied, they can still be of great use in the frontlines. I would agree in the use of Lilly's for Air Search at 2000ft as this has a greater effect vs ASW. The range of the Hellen makes me want to use it in offensive base suppression even into late 43. I have done this with success. The key is to never give them experienced pilots, save these for fighter units. I do not find this to be a gamey tactic as some mods make Allied bombers so hard to shoot down that they can go unescorted. As a Japanese player I find it is my duty to make the Allied victory as hard and costly as possible. The Allied player will savour his hard fought victory all the more for this.

Any altekampfer like to give some advice on how to effectively carry out an invasion so that substantial elements dismebark for the shock attack and not a handful of squads?
Cheers

Use too many ships. If you need 15 ships to carry the unit, load it into 45 ships. have the ships loaded to 30% capacity, and then most of the units will unload the first day.
Edit:
Also, set them to patrol on the hex next to the island first, so they only have to move one hex before unloading. That saves ops-points, and ops-points are your friend here.

But the Helen is 10 times more effective at ASW than any other Japanese bomber... There was great discomfort about this some months ago (or was it last year) when someone did a test and found out that the Helen attacked and hit submarines much more frequently than any other Jap bomber...

I go with the 30% rule for the most part - although if you are using lots of small ships (AGs, LCs etc) then you can load those up 100% and I think they'll unload fully on the first assault. Plus those small ships don't cause as much disruption to your troops.

Hehe, like today when my Helens hit two of his subs. But on the other hand Castor, you really shouldnt operate your subs so close to my bases.
