Question about zipping files,

Post by Gary Tatro »

What do you use to zip files in PBEM games.

1.PKUnzip
2.Winzip
3.Other

I have been trying to play a number of PBEM games and keep running into the problem of games not loading or failing to work. Does anyone know if a certain zip program works better than another or if you need to zip the files in a certain order.

I've tried both

PKunzip and Winzip....and have had screw ups with both!:)
I don't necessarily think it is always the zipping program(s) that botch the files from time to time...sometimes it appears to me that the game itself is the culprit. :(
Goblin and I are having a terrible time getting our brand new game rolling....due to some error that is occurring during our deployment phase.
Personally...I've been using Winzip as of late...and outside of this above mentioned game...I've only had about two ot three other files that were corrupted during the zipping process...which isn't a bad rate for the number of turns flying out of my mailbox! :)

Winzip 8.0

Also had a handful of screwups, but it has worked so far by rezipping and sending again. :)

I hae found the email prep software from the Matrix DL page to work wonders. It handles its own format, winzip and a couple of others I haven't tried yet. It automatically puts the files in the correct folders (subdirectories for other ancient DOS users like me).

I get one error every ten transfers or so (on average they tend to come in clumps). Recrunching and sending works to fix them.

I've got both WinZip 8.1 and the built in compression program that comes in Win XP Pro and have never had problems with either so far.
