Round Shatters

Post by Capt. Pixel »

I was watching a duel between an Sdkfz 222 firing their MG at an SU-85, and this message popped up: "Round Shatters".

The duel continued inconclusively, with no apparent effect from that particular shot.

I don't remember ever having seen this message before. Anybody have a clue to it's meaning, or is it just some 'window dressing' to spice up the log reports? :D

It is the latter.....

I believe...some eye candy data describing what happened when the round hit the vehicle armor. :)

There is also a technical side to this. If you dig into old TO&E threads you will find a lot of stuff dealing with AP round penetration, shatter gap and the like. Mr. Lorrin is the expert for this. Much of it is modelled into the engine. Have a look!

Indeed this is a modeling of a real event. Hard rounds penetrate at close and long ranges but inbetween there is a gap in their ability to penetrate. This "gap" is due to the round getting just the right shock and shattering.
Never take counsel of your fears.
