Grenadiers Delay at Tobruk 7/26/41

July 26 1941
0300 Hours.

It is not daylight and we are up and in position to stop the II Royal Dragoons trying to push into Tobruk. It is still kind of cold but we can expect it to get hotter later on in the day.

Our defenses are set up in a three company front. But as we have a lot of teritory to cover some of our tanks have been placed to fill in the holes between C CO in the north and A CO in the middle. Plus between A CO and B CO in the south. As A has the highest percentage of veterans they have been given the middle to hold.

Hq had no mines to send us today so we are without that protection. There is a heavy sandstorm raging even this early in the morning so vis is going to be limited to 250 Yards. They are going to be right in our face before we even see them. Should make this fight very interesting to say the least.

The men are up and rarin to go. We have fought the II Royal Dragoons before and did very well against them. We have no fear that today will go as well.

Hq has put on call for us a lot of heavy guns. There will be alot of death raining down on the British today. We have on call 6 rocket batt plus 13 150mm guns at our beck and call. I do not see this fight lasting very long today and it will be very one sided our favor im sure.

0330 Hours

Quick short but furious fight. The Britons didnt have the stomach for the kind of punishment we were dealing out. We took down 811 of there men as well 8 artty along with46 of there tanks. While our losses were very slight. We lost 38 men and 3 tanks.

I believe the one sided battle was because of our big guns pounding the hell out of them before they even got close to us. Our tank gunners were right on the money today as well. Hitting anything that appeared in front of them. There tanks didnt have any chance to sit back and throw shells at us from long range. Any infantry that appeared didnt have a chance either as our HMG were laying down a very heavy stream of bullets all day.

All in all a very easy win for us today. Ill bet the fuehere is real happy to hear the good news. Not too much coming from the eastern front has been really all that good.

We will be off for the next month and then move to Halfaya in Egypt and give the Italians some help with the British there. Heard they were getting pushed around some by Montgomery there. A real surpprise after the battle was over Rommel himself dropped by to offer his congratulations for todays victory.
