Hi

You can´t add more installations to the HCDB, because the DB is already at the limit in this annex.

So you can only replace some Installations....

Also keep in mind that any base you replace will potentially affect the scenarios included with the game. Each installation is given its own unique ID number in the DB, so any changes will affect missions that point to that ID number.

That's why most people who do edit the DB make a completely new one for their modified DBs and swap between the two as needed.

Is there a Blank database available somewhere for download that is compatible with the current HCE version? Or is there a way for me to create my own that won't crash the program!

There is a blank database available at http://www.harpgamer.com in the databases section.

You don't have to start from a blank though, you can make a copy of the current one, rename the original to 'OriginalDB' etc, and be sure to rename the new database in the PE.

You could use the Blank db at HG

You could ask Brad if he allows you to modify the HCDB. The HCDB contains nearly each Base twice for some historical reasons (one entry for red and oe for the blue side were required in the past)
Following this way, you get a DB with 700 to 800 free slots in the installation annex, the only thing you have to take care of are gaps in the numberig system! So what you should/can do is more to replace Bases than deleting all 800 at once.

Following this path gives you a DB that is compatible with most old scens and a DB that is up to date with all other settings.

Or 3. posibility, you use my DBs (65to80_DB, 80to95_DB, Euro_DB) also availbe at HG and you add your desired bases. This will give you a working DB too, but only little/no support for the officially shipped Scens => You have to switch DBs!

4. You simply give me the Data and time frame and i´ll add the bases for you...

Some Hints.

1. create a subfolder in your HCE folder. In this folder you put a subfolder for each db. so you can have multiple pfdata.mdb files.
2.It would be smart to rename the pfdata files to match the DB name!
Less chance to mix something up while switching DBs!

Ok here's my problem: I downloaded, yesterday, the Carribbean Basin Battleset and BlankDB form Harpoon HQ because I want to create my own, from scratch, Carribbean database and scenerios. I unzipped the BlankDB to my HCE folder (overwrites the commondb file), I unzip the Caribbean Basin Battleset zip to my desktop and move the  .HCBS file to my BSBuilder/BattleSet folder.  I should now effectively have the Caribbean basin show on the Battleset selection in the PE/SE when I run them and from the SE I should be able to create a new scenario using the "Sample" platforms included with the BlankDB. Not what's happening! I start the SE and select the Caribbean battleset and immediately error box called "NewPtr" and reads "Memory Allocation Error" and crash to desktop when you click "OK" . The EC2003 and Western Pacific battlesets both load fine when selected and I even created a test scenario with each using the "sample" platforms that comes with the BlankDB.

If I'm not doing something correct above please correct me. If I am, can someone else confirm they get the same "NewPtr" error when doing as above? Thanks.

Interesting...I restored the original commondb file and the Carribean Basin battles loads fine from the SE with no errors! Apparently the BlankDB doesnt like battlesets created with the BE, because I created my own Caribbean battleset with the BE and get the same error/crash as described in the prior post . Can someone identify the problem and make available a BlankDB file that is compatible with the BE, unless I'm doing something incorrectly to make BE created battlesets work with the current BlankDB.

Did you try importing the DB? Sometimes when you load in a new DB you have to hit import from the PE to actually load the data. Try it and see what happens.

I can confirm your Problem.

But i really have no idea what is wrong with the blank db...
And i don´t have more time to dig any deeper

Try to replace the existing entries with some new ones (=> fill the db with some DATA) and try again. or use an existing DB to start from.

miller7219, I took a look.  The error was due to there not being a multimount in the BlankDB.  I have remedied that and optimized some other things and have uploaded a new version to http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=26.  The BS Builder battlesets make certain assumptions about database format that were not accounted for in the earlier version of the BlankDB.

Thanks, Tony. Eveything seems to load up just fine now with the SE, new BlankDB, and a battleset made with the BE.
