Air Group Upgrade

Hi Forum.

I am debating on letting my Japanese CV air groups to changeover from the 1/3 F, 1/3 DB, 1/3 TB composition. What do people think about that? I HATE losing those Kates/Jills but can always use more Fighters.

If I do go with the change all I have to do is be disbanded in a Port, have plenty of supply, and set my Daitai to accept replacements--Right?

Er, that composition happens by itself. Nothing you can do about it.

True, you never know when or if that will happen.  I have a carrier in Apr 43 that still has the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3.  It still hasn't converted. [8|]

Well I am in March 1943 with Canoerebel and NONE of my CV Air Groups have changed!  Until about 10 days ago nearly all of my CVs were in Tokyo/Osaka...
 
Mynok--They change from the 1/3--1/3--1/3 to 3/8--3/8--2/8 or, more simply, in a 72 plane CV from 21--21--21 to 27--27--18.

Isn't it rather 24-24-24 to 27-27-18? (for a CV with 72 planes)
and 21-21-21 to 24-24-15? (for a CV with 63 planes)
but i don't know when it happens[&:]

I needed another beer to catch that mistake!  Must have been thinking of Hiryu/Soryu and not the larger flattops...

It is just my opinion but from a performance view I would want more Kates not less.

I've had some of my Japanese carriers do odd things. 
 
27-24-18 Akagi
23-24-21 Soryu
23-23-15 Hiryu
24-24-24 Shokaku
24-27-18 Zuikaku

If the mechanics are the same as for Allies, then you need a Command HQ affiliated with that port (base) to be present (e.g. Home Defense HQ).

I had my CVs upgrading and disbanded in Toyko and Osaka for quite a while before they left and their Air Groups NEVER changed. 
 
I love the Kates as well...

I do have to admit that I have thought about pulling a DB Daitai off of one the 72 plane Japanese CVs and replacing it with a CV Capable Torpedo Daitai.  Imagine:  24 Zero and 48 Kates!  That would be quite fun to do.  Wonder if that is gamey?

Did you have Home Defense Force HQ present in either Tokyo or Osaka?

BTW, the trigger date (according to manual [8|]) is July 1st 1942.

I did have everything in place at Tokyo as well as HQ units in Osaka.  Didn't get the upgrade...
 
I have decided that CV Akagi or Kaga is going to be transformed into a Kate CV:  24 A6M3a and 51 Kates...
