Supply sharing within the same force....

Post by Deathtreader »

Hi all,

Was playing thru the Bir el Gubi scenario (again) (I just love the 2 NA additions) yesterday & noticed that the 4th County hadn't moved for quite some time. Turns out the HQ had run out of fuel & was awaiting emergency re-supply. Fair enough. Interestingly enough though, the 3 attached organic tank companies were practically swimming in the stuff. Since the entire battalion was within immediate vicinity of each other it put me to wondering if there was any way the engine could be modified - short of a major overhaul - to allow units in very close proximity to share supply with each other in circumstances like the one above.

I agree with this- I've had similar situations. Perhaps a button on the E&S tab that when an HQ unit is selected, will equally distribute basics, (common) ammo, & fuel amongst the subordinate commands when clicked.

I've noticed this also. In situations where the superior HQ is over its CL, this is somewhat understandable. If that is not the case, then it seems rational that basics and fuel could be/would be shared, if not properly delivered. The case for ammo is not as strong; new ammo requirements (different type) are not easily met by a temporary task force HQ-same goes for spare parts to keep everything running. These problems of special temporary supply requirements were certainly eased by "sharing", which necessitates, "lateral communication".

I hope Arjuna responds to this as it makes a lot of sence to me.

Sorry guys. I'm right in the middle of trying to get out a new beta build for BFTB. This requires some pondering as there are a number of issues to consider, like the number of route calcs to determine lines of supply between the sharing units ( and that's a BIG price to pay in terms of processing ). I'll get back to this later.

It seems like it was only a few weeks ago that we nagged you into making basics and fuel more difficult to receive-now we want it easier I hope you have a good sense of humor. Just remember; we are only trying to help ( in a small way).[;)]

I, for one, like the fact that fuel and basics have become precious commodities.

Except for the bug in the early version of COTA where paraptoops weren't getting basics at all, until juts recently in a beta test of a BFTB scenario, I have almost never had my troops run out of anything.

Just last week while playtesting the Manhay Crossroads scenario in BFTB I had a pionier company subordinate to a regimental HQ that was operating independently run out of fuel. The unit was stuck for several hours until the 1800 hour resupply kicked in and they were able to get on the move again. They sat idle for about 4 hours waiting for resupply. I felt it added an interesting new dynamic. Everying shouldn't always go as plannned.

I agree HansBolter -- it is an interesting new dynamic and one that I highly favour......... I'm only suggesting that when you have a few units practically on each other's laps with no enemy in sight, that it is likely the flush units would contribute a little in the way of fuel/basics to their skint comrades.
