ouch! This is the clear hex West of Charter Towers where the Australian Army has decided to fight! Our av gets cut while the defender even has a higher adjusted av than base av... great, looks like our attack on central Australia has failed. Will try to do a flanking maneuver, if it fails I will retreat North as this is the area I wanted to occupy. We only went further South as Swift decided not to fight. Now he finally does...

the day starts off with another sweep from Akyab to Asansol and with every Allied squadron being able to bounce the whole fight our kill ratios are going down. This time it´s a 3:1, which is still high, but I cant´t afford to lose 13 high exp fighter pilots. Instead of using tiny numbers of Cap at every base, Swift should have started to mass his fighters far earlier, just like he´s doing it here.

here you can see KB´s Cap fighting against the 4E raid coming from Pearl Harbour. As expected, the enemy bombers are near impossible to be shot down but we even manage to take two B-17s down during the replay. Knowing we won´t take down a lot of the bombers, our main goal was to damage them and to pummel the bomber crews morale. In the end the enemy lost a dozen of the beasts and all bombers turned back, while we lose 4 fighters.

we are again able to take down another fort level but losses on our side are again severe. We have to adjust our expected losses until the fall of Kunming from 35.000 to probably 50.000 casualties. But we can afford it, as we have lots of time to rest our glorious troops in China after the fall of Kunming as there shouldn´t be any threat left in China.

This is two hexes North of Alice Springs on the road. We arrived yesterday with two divs, a bgd and a base force and today the Allied defenders are doing a deliberate attack. While they fail 0:1 we even suffer more casualties and all our troops are highly disrupted. Unfortunately also in this area of advance, there´s no chance to advance further. All our attacks towards Central Australia are stalled now. We have plenty of time though and will slowly retreat to the Northern bases if needed.

We start off with a big sweep from Mandalay to take out some more fighters over Asansol and to clear the way for the 150 bombers going in in the afternoon. Well, unfortunately Swift has changed his tactic of using small numbers of Cap everywhere, to big numbers over one base where he seems to have a lot of radar also as my daitais were bounced on and on and on and on. Even though I know that alt doesn´t matter in sweeps (excellent design decision ONCE AGAIN) I still set my daitais to different alts but of course it didn´t help. Bounce, bounce, climb, bounce, bounce, climb, bounce...).
The bigger numbers and even more so the bounce enables the Allied to achieve a kill rate of 1:2 now, while they only achieved ridicoulos kill rates of 1:8 before. I found those 8:1 kill rates of Zeroes against Allied fighters as ridicoulos as I find the fact that radar alone can boost the Allied fighter abilities to kill rates of 1:2 now.

and here´s the bomber attack in the afternoon. Obviously, the sweep from the morning showed no effect, as there are nearly as many fighters on Cap as in the morning. The usual "every single Allied fighter is able to bounce every single Japanese aircraft" and we are hit hard again. What was really disappointing is the hit rate and so we destroyed only a couple of aircraft on the ground. All in all this attack today showed that we can no longer contest the enemy airspace (and the only reason for that is Allied radar coverage) and we will now switch to the defensive and will try to limit our offensive actions on attacks against shipping.
Losses (especially pilot losses) we can´t afford:

RE: WITP in the Alps! Swift (A) vs. Castor Troy (J)
I don´t know what I´m doing wrong, but everytime I start up WITP it seems like my luck is shut off.
The last two or three days we had the chance to sink half a dozen BBs more than a dozen CAs and dozens of other Allied ships in the area of Johnston Island. Today the 126 Betties / Nells at Palmyra launched 9!!!! attacks against Allied shipping and those 9 attacks ALL failed to locate the enemy TFs! 9 attacks failed to locate the TFs. How much bad luck does it take to see all 9 fail to locate the target?? [:(]

[:(]AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/23/42

I haven´t spotted a single carrier so far and I´m sure Swift isn´t covering all his TFs that are in range of nearly 130 Betties/Nells anyway. So how much more careless can you be when you see 9 Betty attacks failing to locate your ships yesterday, but just keep on sending high value TFs in today? This is just pure luck that there aren´t a couple of high value ships sunk already. The same "fail to locate target" sh*t was seen in the Kuriles also when we had Nells several times fail to locate the big enemy bombardment TFs...
