Internet Explorer 7.0?

Post by rickier65 »

Is there a setting I can make to run the Battle Generator without installing IE 7.0?

Thanks,
Rick

IE 7.0 is the minimum, so anything later than that is just fine too.

I've tried to stick with IE6.x and lower. IE 7 added some features I'm pretty reluctant to subject myself to. Will it work with Firefox or another browser?

Reason I ask about another browser is that I think I can install anohter browser that can co-exist with IE6.x and simply not make it default. I'll just have the other browser for PC:K

Just finished registering PC:K.

Thanks

Thanks, sorry to hassle you on big day. I still need to print manual, and actually start playing PCK in any event - And since I'm not a PCOWS player, it will take a while to learn.

Thanks,
Rick

No problem. I'd suggest starting with the Tutorial Guide and the Tutorial Mission, then move on to the main Game Manual and try the "Boot Camp" Campaign and finally after that one of the historical scenarios/campaigns or the random battles/campaigns.

Feel free to post here if you have any other questions.

Erik what's this with IE 7.0? I have IE 6.0 so if I wanted to install a game or use the battle generator/campaign generator I couldn't?
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! ;) and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?

ravinhood,

Game runs fine with IE6.x. Its the RBG and RCG that seem to require IE7 or better.

I may try firefox or one of the other browsers to see if it works (but not right now). I'm pretty sure I can install another browser and simply not make it the default and they will coexist with IE6. But IE7 won't coexist with and IE6 install.

I'm betting there will be a work-around before you get your game from NWS. OF course as a last resort we could give in and install IE7. (although we better it it soon while it's still avaible for XP).

Not me I tried IE7 and I had more issues with lockups and garbled letters to the old error messages boxes you sometimes get when games don't work properly. I'm gonna be one pissed unhappy camper if IE 7 is a REQUIRED feature. All though this time Erik never ONCE mentioned or Stridor or anyone else that the RMG/RCG REQUIRED IE 7. I think I'm gonna cancel my order now until this gets worked out. This is plum damn rediculous.

Oh, don't do that I'm sure it will be worked out. Like I said, one of the other browsers should work, and coexist with IE6.

We're looking into it - I have to wait until Stridor wakes up in Australia to get a definite answer for you all.

For what it's worth, IE7 works fine on every system I've used it on and it's on all our systems here at work. It's available as a free download and is the current standard Microsoft browser. I understand you don't want to upgrade, so I'm going to find out if there are other options, but if it were me I'd have no problem upgrading to IE7 (you don't have to use it as your default browser) in order to be able to use the RBG and RCG.

In any case, I hope there's another option for those of you who don't want to upgrade

Thanks Eric - I did try a quick install of Firefox 2.0 but it The RBG still wouldn't run. I'll work it out one way or another. Maybe I'll try IE7 on my laptop. In any event - I'll work something out. I imagine Stridor will be able to provde insight since he seems to know the two battle generators pretty well.

I imagine your day is going to be filled with minor (and sometimes not so minor) headaches that always accompany any major software release.

Good Luck!

Yes that is because he wrote them [;)]

ATM IE 7.0 is required because of certain nice features in it that IE 6 didn't have.

If the demand is strong enough I *may* be able to release a patch which supports IE 6. However it won't look as good. This is for the RBG/RCG Campaign generator. I doubt I could ever get the Scenario editor to work with IE6.0 (it would have numerous graphical glitches I think).

I will just echo what Erik has said however, why would you not upgrade? What exactly is the reason? If I could understand that then maybe I could help some more. You can install IE7 and have it *not* the default browser if you prefer FF or opera.

Stridor,

When IE 7 first came out i did some looking. compared some metrics about memory usage, and what features it had. IE7 has significantly larger footprint than IE6 and I wasn't interested in any of the new features. I've moe to learn over the years to avoid SW upgrades unless there are things i need from the upgrade - too many headaches otherwise-

And IE 7 won't coexist with IE6, which is what I'm using now. Oh well, Ill play around on another machine and see what happens. But you might want to add IE7 to the list of system requirements.

Thanks for the quick repsonse - and I wouldnt expend much (or any) energy making it work with IE6 - I doubt it would be worth the effort for those few folks like me. I'll probably end up biting the bullet and putting it on.

Thanks,
Rick

Thanks Rick,

IE7 has now been added to the requirements. The reson why it wasn't earlier is entirely my fault, I should have picked up on it earlier and stressed it to Erik.

I am pretty sure when I get a chance, I will be able to do something with IE6 even if some features need to be toned down c/w the IE7 version.

And to anyone else, remember that you don't need IE7 to be your active browser, just installed on your machine.

I understand your concern re: resource foot print of IE7, but can I ask in that case why you would use IE6 and not FF2?

I had IE for years. Didn't move to to FF because of reported load time tests I read, and again IE did what I wanted so no need to change. I loaded Firefox 2.0x this afternoon to see if I could run the RCG or RBG with Firefox but it still wouldn't run.

I used to be responsible for computer operations in a moderately critical infrastructure operation and I learned to be pretty darn gun-shy about ANY upgrade that wasn't essential for operations.

And as far as working on making it work with IE6 - I seriously wouldn't spend the time unless you get a whole lot of other folks clamoring. I'd much rather you focus on step by step tutorial for map building and/or working on the in-gmae map builder for your next release.

And I noticed you put the start of your tutorial for making a map in the manual folder. Thanks!
