Game freezes at "Loading Interface"

I installed the latest drivers from www.nvdia.com and the latest audio drivers from dell.
The problem remains.

both Graphic & Audio drivers up to date, reinstall PCW ( and notice the systemm.ddl file for Directx was missing but didn't prevent PCW from running fine) reinstall PCK + DirectX
set up low graph and 32bi and ....

still freezing (It is still winter at kharkov )

We're discussing this intenally folks, I apologize that we don't have a quick answer, but we're working hard to figure one out. This did not come up pre-release on any internal or external test systems and the logs are not telling us exactly what is happening so far.

With that said, just for the heck of it since I noticed this as a common thread, if you are running your Windows with other language settings, could you try setting your Regional settings to US English, rebooting and seeing if it maks any difference at all?

If you guys decide that this is a DirectX problem regarding a dll, I might be able to help.

Two years ago when I tried to install Civ IV I ran into a DX installation problem. It couldn't install DX (9c) properly which resulted in problem with not only Civ IV (which required 9c) but other games.

Anyway, I went to Microsoft online help and we fixed the problem. I saved the entire conversation in a text file on how to fix this kind of problem ... the problem was the a DLL became unregistered (for some reason a previous version or whatever), so it couldn't update DirectX.

I don't know if you have the same problem but doing this fix might allow you a fresh DX install to rule out that as a problem.

With that, here's a quick snipet describing my problem to MS and his reply :

{Robert Naylor}during the setup, while "checking files for update" it stops, and a window appears with the title DIRECTX SETUP ... in the window it only states this .... A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted. Once I click "ok", it returns to the DXsetup window at which time it has only the "finish" button available , and once clicking that, the process ends, resulting in basically cancelling the setup and hence not being able to install the game, ie civ IV. The same error occurs when I tried the DX9.0c download from Microsoft website.

Holler at me if you want a step-by-step process to assure all your DLL's are properly registered, if that indeed is the problem. Might save you the cost in contacting MS help online!

I should have asked this earlier, but have all of you tried shutting down all other background programs and processes to see if any could be interfering? You can google for a program called "EndItAll" (the original free version, not EndItAll2) that can help with his, but definitely try it with all security/anti-virus and other background programs totally off as a test.

First test using Endall program and swiching off Anti-virus doesn't work

BUT changing Language and regional options (in the sub direct. system from configuration pannel) to UK the ones make it RUN !
(I made my own translation from FR to UK so not sure directory and menu names are the UK ones)

What ever scen , campaign or side choosen with the hightest graph setting PCK doesn't freeze anymore

(summer is back at Kharkov)[:D]

Under Vista, I just made one small&nbsp;change in my settings&nbsp;:
1) Go to the Regional and Language Options in the Control Panel.
2) in the "Formats" tab, I select "English (United States)"
3) It is working

May be some of you need to change some other values in the other tabs. In "Location","Keyboard" and "Administrative" tabs, I already had English US Settings.

No only changes in the regioanla setting are anough I switch back all other option to my native language and PCK still runs fine[:'(]

Posted a problem less than 48 hours ago, returns now to see if someone has replied, and look-at-that...problem solved.
I'm impressed with the way Erik R has dealt with the issue, good job, if only all software support guys could be as determined and eager as you seem to be. Big thanks!
Haven't actually got the chance to try the suggested fix yet, but as my system is in norwegian I'm quite confident it will be ok now.
Anyway, keep those good games coming from Matrix, and I'll continue to buy them, especially when I get this level of support and help from the forums and staff.

For what it's worth, it shouldn't have worked this way - we're looking to see what we missed. Ideally the next update will allow you to keep your original regional settings.

i have been playing the game for a few days with no problems- now the game starts up ok but gets stuck when i go to load a saved game- around the 10% mark- i tried changing the region setting but no effect.&nbsp; its not just the game saves either- it won't load any games.&nbsp; ive not changed any of my settings to make this happen- it worked fine 2 hours ago and now it doesn't
love the game though:)

Huh, on the surface that certainly doesn't make much sense.

Did you change _anything_ in terms of your software or hardware in the last day? Installed anything new?

If you start any new scenario now, does it do the same thing?

Could you post a DxDiag file and the contents of your most recent Log file from your /Logs sub-folder too please?

So is this in all cases, for new scenarios as well or only for saved games?

If you have a saved game that fails, I would love to see that as well. What exactly is on the screen when the loading fails? Is it also "Loading Interface"?

Just out of curiosity, have you done a full shutdown of your system (not standby) and reboot since to see if it made any difference?
