Script Bombs at RBG & RCG

Post by dowzup »

BBAttached are the screens I get when I attempt to start the random battle generator. I get the same error type with the random campaign generator and each of the options on the left-hand side of the game's start menu. The game itself, however, plays beautifully.

I am dying to toy around with the random generators, though, so I'd appreciate any advice.

Hi Dowzup,

First, are you running IE 7? Second, have you tried setting the security settings back to the default? Do you have any script blockers running?

What happens if you click "Yes"?

Regards,

Hi Erik!

Yes, on IE7 - and further Yes on defaults at security settings.

The attached screenshot is generated at the first click of 'yes' on the script dialog box.

Hopefully Stridor will be able to figure out what could be going on here.

"Automation server can't create object"

Is possibly due to the following:

1. Script blockers
2. Problems with windows scripting host. I see you are on Vista, so wsh version 5.7 (the latest) can be found on microsofts site, might be worth a reinstall.
3. Changes to script security in IE. In this case I would bring up (in IE) tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced and then click on Reset. This should put IE7 back into its default "factory" mode.

If you don't want to reset back to factory mode then ensure all security levels are set back to default. As an extra you can try ticking the "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" (under Advanced security) or setting "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting" to enable or prompt. The later option change back to default if and when you do get it working.

The RBG has been tested on default XP/Vista installs and works fine. If the secuirty settings have been played with or there are script blockers or wsh is somehow not registered or corrupt there will be problems.

I hope this helps.

If not get back to my with what you have tried and what results you have obtained and I will see if I can work it all out.

I have the same problems, but on xp - see my other thread.
Dled/installed latest WSH proggie - it's 5.6 for XP. Set all IE security at default, no script blockers, then authorized everything in Adv.settings.
It did'nt help at all, still crashing everywhere... That's IE crap, ain't it ? [:@]

These work perfectly on a clean XP + IE7 install and work fine on every test system we've tried them on. The percentage of customers having any issues with them so far has been quite small.

Are you sure there isn't anything else running that would be interfering?

Well, under Windowz there's a ton of stuff running! But I don't have anything that should interfere with IE scripts. My IE is as clean as possible, as I just don't use it lol!
Did you test installs on non-C: drive ? French XP (already there's the problem with region settings) ?
Pay me a drink if I'm right ;)

We did test alternate drives, but I can't guarantee that we tested it in French. As far as I know though, there is nothing there that should be language-dependent. I'll give it a try nevertheless. Stridor should be back on tonight to hopefully give some more suggestions on why you might be seeing this.

Really I don't see anything that could make "my" config unusual... And since there *is* a problem with Region settings and the game, it's my beacon [;)] !
