Not Quite Right

The game over all is pretty good. I like the campaign generator, etc. But three problems:

1. The destroyed Russian tanks do not look destroyed. They have TC's sticking out of hatches etc. Obviously, this is a bug.

2. There is not the option to go into REVERSE during your move....ONLY when it's your reaction move. This is an oversight. It cost me a Scout Car ....as he tried to turn around in the sites of a T-34. He could of backed away and got away.

3. I something wrong with spotting through woods? I had 3 halftracks advance to a large light woods edge. A couple of Russian tanks could spot us through at least 300 yards of woods....this was the long way through the woods....at a diagonal angle.

Anyway....any comments Matrix?

I'm not Matrix, but there is a withdraw order you can give. (p. 36), but it is a Platoon level order and it does applies to all units in the platoon.

Yes, this is on our bug list. It's a tough one to pin down though as far as what's causing it in the code, but I expect we will find it eventually.

Actually, there is - there is a Withdraw base platoon order you can issue in the Orders phase as well as a Withdraw reaction order that you can use as an override in the Reaction phase. Have another look, there should be no reason to turn your back to the enemy unless you choose to do so.
3. I something wrong with spotting through woods? I had 3 halftracks advance to a large light woods edge. A couple of Russian tanks could spot us through at least 300 yards of woods....this was the long way through the woods....at a diagonal angle.

Almost impossible for me to comment on this without a save file of the exact situation. I can say that every time I was given such a save in testing, if went down to the "eye level" of the spotting unit (try Tab and then Tab with it selected) I could see how they were looking. Keep in mind that we don't just look at the terrain map, we actually shoot out two rays at different levels to see how much actual obstruction there is. Light Woods often have visible gaps in them at certain angles, where they would only need to look through a few leaves to see some movement on the other side

If you would like me to double check and make sure there's no bug involved, please send a save file to erikr@matrixgames.com and I'll load it up and take a look. In my general experience, spotting is working without bugs and woods and light woods seem to be providing the expected level of concealment.

yeah, this is a wierd bug. The same vehicle will have its TC stay dead on some maps and pop up undead in others.

I just finished a game where the tank looked destroyed (and it was) but the TC was still looking around. [:D]

Thanks Eric for the replies.  I am glad you are aware of the "non-destroyed" destroyed Russian tanks.    Thanks for the tip on the platoon withdrawl....I can't believe I missed that.  (I havn't read the rules yet. waiting for the hard copy.)   As for the forest I will just assume "light woods" doesn't give much concealment.  Hard lesson for my troops to learn.

Here's how I look at Issue #1. Tank gets destroyed... TC tries to get out (while on fire)... TC succombs to fire... TC is now a charred corpse. :P But of course we have to fix this as his head still moves.

LOL ... I thought this too a few days ago ... keep the bug ... but slap some burnt skin on the vehicle ... problem solved!
