AAR for Speedy

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

AAR for Speedy

Post by Hard Sarge »

I wanted to post and pin this to the top, but this area is for Speedy to talk about what he is doing

I have opened this post to edit the title, only section I am able to see is this one, so I have not seen or read anything here, even though it is a test, I want it to be played as if it was a real game

this must be a rather long and HARD turn.

Speedy is either shocked and rendered speechless by the infamous HARD raids

or he just fell asleep [:'(][:'(][:'(]

Long turn. Didn't play well or react fast enough (keep thinking of BTR reaction times).

So this is where you have escaped to after munching on penguins in WITP.  You do realise that in the northern hemisphere, polar bears are somewhat more dangerous than penguins are in the southern hemisphere.

Aye the LW has many a Polar Bear[;)]

So i'll post screenshots tonight. The short of it was that the 1st day was a bad day for RAF with 52 planes lost for 30 LW.

I mis-timed my main interception  (involving c.200 fighters) by 10-15 minutes which was annoying.

2 LW fighter sweeps netted about 25 planes of mine also.

Park and Dowding have conferred and different tactics will be used tomorrow...........

Are they going to fire the clearly inept boss of Fighter Command?[:'(]

Hi all,

So here's a few screenshots from the first day of combat. I've noted a few 'quirks' that i've reported and we'll work on correct/correct. One glaringly obvious one is that the LW start with 83 VP's at game start. It should be 0-0.

Also some little tweaks in combat may be needed. Fighter vs Fighter combat looks good with the Spit and 109 pretty evenly matched depending on altitude, numbers and tactical positions.

The bombers are looking a little too strong at present (IMO) with it fairly hard to down decent numbers of them EVEN when they have little escort.

For example on of HS's raid was 30 x JU88 bombing a Radar station in Cornwall (SW England). I intercepted them with 24 x Hurri and only managed to shoot down 2 of them for 1 Hurri lost and 1 damaged.

On with the game.............

2 incoming riads for Ventnor and Tangmere. Both turned out to obscured by cloud......preparing a patrol north of Southampton to intercept the blighters

Ventnor raid returning whilst the Tangmere raid goes in. My patrolling planes are vectored in. Frustrating since managed to down a couple of bombers and 109's and then the Tangmere returning planes got massacred by patrolling 109's.

In the SW you'll see 2 unescorted raids goign for Radar sites.

The raids in the east are 2 x 90 bomber raids with heavy 109 escort that heavily damaged Coltishall and Martlesham. 50 x Hurricane do their best but lose 12 to the 109's for little gain.

45 minutes later 3 massive raids head for Kenley, Biggin Hill and Gravesend. Biggin and Gravesend heavily damaged.

My second most frustrating part of the day......mis-timed this mass interception by 10 minutes which means although I shot down 5 x 109 and 3-4 Italian planes my planes had to return for fuel early......

10% loss ratio.....this will be hard!!!
But after this is a short scenario ( 7 days ?? ) you can live with that, just cycle the worn out units to the north.
But be aware that the Germans have a better escort range in the 41 scen.

You may also consider NOT to use the Big Wing tactic at the start....because this gives the LW a big chance for effective sweeps and killing of your units during landing.

A more cautious approach by the RAF today led to a greater level of success.

HS spaced his raids out more in terms of timing and locale.

I also selected which raids to go after on a more selective basis. I let most raids go through whilst I concentrated a small amount of force on a couple of raids.

HS again went for a couple of sector fields - North Weald, Duxford, Tangmere. The only one which was knocked out was Tangmere. Duxford has moderate damage.

Bomber defensive fire was heavy (too heavy for how it should be). I ended up trading about 1:1 for each bomber and RAF fighter shot down.

Overall losses for the day were in my favour; especially when you take into accoutn 4 of my 14 lost planes were destroyed on the ground.

That does seem excessive. I suppose it's too early in the scenario for your pilots to be very fatigued?

Yup. Not down to fatigue. HS and I have talked about it...something on the list.
