Errors with Battle Gen

Post by PDiFolco »

I have IE7 and all the necessary stuff, the game does work reasonably well on my old rig (Athlon 2400 and GF6600 !), but the Battle Generator generates ... errors mostly !

When I launch it I have this :

Then it looks like that :

Bleh ... [:(]

EDIT : same with all "hta" apps, there seems to be problem with file paths in the scripts.
My PzK is installed on a D:\Wargames directory, nothing very fancy.
I'm under XP (won't buy that new Vista sh* hum thing before a while !)

Hi,

I understand your disappointment, but don't worry - these apps do work fine on all systems with IE7 as long as nothing is blocking them. Do you have any security software running that might block scripts from executing? I saw on the other thread that you had already tried resetting your security settings. Did you also try resetting your file association for HTA files in case that was broken?

Yes I reset the hta association, which didn't exist for me. What's weird is that all script errors indicate a problem with filepath, not anything else.

Erik,

By the way, which porgram should the HTA file associate with ... my is currently set to HTML application. I'm not having this particular problem, however, my problem is when Stridor told me I should be able to double-click on scenario to edit the XML in the RCG ... please reference the RCG Editing Questions thread about that problem ... could be related?

Thanks,
Rob

When you double clicked on a scenario, were they random scenarios in the campaign. It seem to me I got a mesage in the RCG generator that you couldnt edit the random campaign scenarios in the RCS. But I was able to double click on a Scenario I added to the Campaign by double clicking on it. (the first scenario in the screen below started as a random battle that I then edited in the Scen editor - then added to the Random campaign).

OK, I have tried all of the advice, but I also continue to have the same script errors as in the gentleman in the first post.  First there is a "length" error, then a "path" error.

I have reset all the default security settings in IE7. I have disabled my virus protection. I have made certain that .hta files are associated with IE7.

I still get the errors.

Running XP and IE7.

You don't need to disable virus protection. Default security levels are fine.

The problem is that htas need to be associated with "mshta.exe" and *NOT* IE7

EDIT: mshta is otherwise known as "Microsoft (R) HTML Application Host"

I hope that helps

Note: As is standard htas come from the factory associated with mshta. Obviously something funny has happened on your system to break that association

Erik should make this a sticky

Code: Select all

What happens when you run the mshta.exe file present in this folder:

 C:\WINDOWS\system32\

If Notepad opens when you open mshta.exe, it may be caused by a security
software that you've installed, in a attempt to block the HTA scripts
running in your system. Extracting a new copy of mshta.exe should help.

We have seen this problem at least once before!

You will need to download the latest version of wsh (5.7) from MS to fix it.

OK, that fixed it. Association with mshta.exe worked.

Working fine now. Thanks
