RE: WITP in the Alps! Swift (A) vs. Castor Troy (J)

Post by castor troy »

This is the situation in Australia. Most of my troops are still stuck. The troops in the West will form a defensive position West of the road/rail crossing to hopefully block the 800-900 enemy av coming North. This way we can keep the supply line open to our troops near Charter Towers. If the enemy can break through than we are in big trouble. Even more than we are already with our problems to move our units.

our defenders put up a good fight and we inflicted heavy losses to the enemy, even more than we thought. The enemy has lost 1 BB (half a dozen more BBs damaged by torps), 4 CAs, half a dozen DDs and several transports. Some 75 enemy aircraft were lost in the process to wear down our defense. 3 Allied divisions were worn down and will need a couple of months to be ready for their next assault.

We lost about 50 aircraft, 1 CA (another one damaged), 2 DDs and 2 subs (several more subs damaged).

If we are able to inflict such losses with every of our lightly defended outposts far in the Pacific then we will be more than happy.

This is East of Cairns! We have to do something to make our troops in Eastern Australia mobile again, so we decided to do an invasion of Cairns or Cooktown, as Swift has only one base force in each base, which is highly careless and a big fault IMO. I guess we will go for Cairns. I have put together everything I had available in this short period of time and so KB, nearly the whole battlefleet and a couple of transport TFs are East of Cairns at the moment. Plan is to take Cairns with paras. Then we have to fly in base forces and bring lots of supply with merchants. The enemy main army here is cut off because Swift decided to kill off my TK rgt instead of moving his Army one hex back towards Charter Towers. As soon as we own Cairns and have lots of supply there, the situation will absolutely change and there isn´t much doubt our divisions will make progress again.

I expect massive air attacks on my TFs tomorrow, the enemy bombers should be quite experienced from all the ground attacks already.

Out of the 140 Tabbies flying to Cains the single base force there damaged 60 and shot down 10! [8|] This base force was bombarded by two BB TFs during the night. Then the paras do their shock attack and now look at the Allied adjusted av! Isn´t that great? Matrix deserves a Nobel prize! Mathematics in Austria and the US are obviously different. In Austria we are tought that no matter with what you multiply 0 it always stays 0! In the US it´s like: multiply 0 with 31 and you get an adjusted av of 31... So this means this base force with 0 assault value is suddenly as strong as half of a TK rgt.

50th Heavy AA Battalion Wiped Out at Johnston Island by attrition!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maizuru 2nd SNLF Wiped Out at Johnston Island by attrition!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5th Base Force Wiped Out at Johnston Island by attrition!!!

And here´s the next sh*t! No problem that the units on Johnston get wiped out, BUT: I have pulled out parts of all units there (which are now at Kwajalein) and it seems they all turned into ghost units now!! [8|]

Bugs, bugs, bugs. Working on AE is great, but I fear that with all the new features the bugs will be a couple of times more than there are already. Better would be to try to take care of all the existing bugs (or at least the 10 major bugs) and then work on AE.

mentioned it earlier, someone should seriously look at the targetting routine! This airstrike is a f*cking joke IMO. We spot a single ML (we identified it as ML Krakatau during the search phase) and then we launch a strike as if we would attack Pearl Harbour. Ridicoulos. The ML was sunk after the first 3 Vals and the single Kate that dropped a torp.

one of the biggest leaking Caps I´ve ever seen. KB is two hexes off Cairns. Should have caused morale to drop a bit within the Mitchells but they are three or four different Dutch squadrons.

attack on my ships? Low morale and the bombers turn back! But look at the CAP!! [X(][X(] This is above KB!!!! No idea what the game is doing... I see 70+ Zeroes leaking to Cairns and over my TFs there´s only a tiny Cap. What if Swift wouldn´t attack my LCUs and all his bombers would have attacked KB today? 100+ bombers against 38 fighters would mean 5 bombers shot down and 3 carriers heavily damaged...[8|] There should be a Cap of 130+ fighters. Even then I´m in a highly dangerous position so close to enemy LBA.

this is an example of what I was speaking all the time. Swift could really clobber KB with his LBA if he would have set ALL his bombers on nav attack and ALL his fighters on escort. Even this small strike of Bostons (that are low on morale) penetrates the Cap and it was a wonder that the high exp bomber crews didn´t put a couple of 1000lb bombs into my carriers. Amazin also that while I have 5 BBs in the TF all 15 Bostons that made attack runs attacked a carrier... lucky turn for us...

this is the fragment of the Maizuru 2 that was evacuated from Johnston. Maizuru 2, AA unit??????? [8|] Out of the 5 units that were evacuated, 4 turned into such stupid ghosts, completely screwed up. It´s just like if one unit out of the row turned into a ghost and then all the following units converted into semi ghosts, whith their unit type screwed up. Of course, those units are LOST now. Thanks WITP. Well done, FIX the bugs. [:(]

after seeing 50% of the attacking Bostons attacking my ships last time I was forced to increase my Cap. Two fighter daitais were flown in for two Val daitais that left the carriers and are sitting at Gili Gili now. I also increased Cap from 80 to 90% and still, two Bostons made an attack run. Amazing that their morale is still high enough to take a real punishment, not even thinking about turning back... but they tried to attack a supply convoy anyway...

thank god we finally take the base. Now we have a level 5 airfield and 230 Tojos will fly Cap 80% tomorrow. My combat TFs and KB are already ordered to retire, the supply TFs have to go in without cover (or only with leaking Cap from Cairns). With Cairns in our hands we now have a base where we can bring massive amounts of supply and more troops (nearly the whole Southern Area Army is now involved in the fights in Australia!) [X(] We have to finish our operations here before the enemy will begin to strike against the atolls around Tarawa or Kwajalein to be ready for the enemy assault.

If we succeed, then only because of the fact that Swift hasn´t brought any troops, nor aircraft, nor supply to Australia so far. From February on up to now (mid November) we haven´t spotted a single big TF going from the US West Coast to Australia or New Zealand! Can you imagine that? I have 6-12 Glen equipped subs (I know, using Glens for naval search is gamey, shame on me - but it´s always so tempting to use them) between Pago Pago and 8 hexes North of the map edge as well South West of the major West Coast bases, but they have never spotted anything in over half a year. That´s new to me, but it enables me to wipe out large amount of troops in Australia (that are under restrict command anyway). Even though that the movement bug makes it really hard for me even when I have twice the number of troops than my enemy and not to forget, our troops are far more experienced.

But it would be fun to play the allies against you. [:)]

yes, you are right. You produce far MORE aircraft then I do and you have Musashi in service while I won´t see her within the next 3 months. Your industry must be seriously crippled in Nikmod! [;)]

Even more so because I have conquered far more territory than you did in our game. [:D]

What do you produce instead? If you compare the two nikmods you will notice that alot of Jap industry is missing in the version we are playing. If Im producing more planes than you, then you must produce alot more armament or vehicles or repair shipyard or something. Im not running any deficits in our game, are you stockpiling in yours?
The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences..

no, we are playing the same versions, I stockpile some 200 HI points a day, but have shut down 200 merchant points, which means if my industry would run at 100% I would be 1000+ HI points short every day.
