Calling Artillery?

Post by NefariousKoel »

I may be missing something here..

I'm playing the Boot Camp campaign and I regularly can't call artillery even though my command squad is in command and I've not used arty yet.

For instance, in the first scenario, on the first turn I'm out of command. I move forward a bit to take a peek. Next turn (and often a few turns after that) my artillery command is greyed out even though I'm in command still. It tells me nothing.

Is there an artillery cooldown period after a scenario starts? Are there any other reasons I can't call artillery when in command besides a cooldown from a previous call?

By "in command" I assume you mean they're in contact with a FO and the icon for that in the HQ unit's info arae has turned green?

It sounds like you've hit a little bug that's being fixed for the first update. If you keep the HQ squad selected and never de-select it or click on another squad, then the Orders menu "forgets" to refresh the artillery status. When you see the HQ squad's contact icon turn green, click on another squad, then back to the HQ squad (or just de-select and then re-select it) and you should see that the artillery is no longer grayed out.

The Problem Is Between the Keyboard and the Chair.

I noticed on my last couple boot camp retries that I wasn't purchasing the artillery at the beginning. I somehow thought they were core units and blasted through the purchase screen.

Ah! Ok - well that's one more thing Boot Camp teaches I suppose. [8D]

Something else it taught me not to take for granted: Replayed the first Boot Camp scenario a few extra times - got a full-on 45mm AT gun straight in the face when I was expecting the infantry rush from the sides again. Doah!
