Russo - Japanese War

Post by themattcurtis »

I've seen WWI scenarios posted at the community site. In my dreams, someone will create a Russo Japanese War scenario. But if they don't I might take a crack after I've read all the editor tutorials. I got seven books on the war -- from Dawn of the Rising Sun to the Siege of Port Arthur to Rising Sun/Stumbling Bear to some naval titles.

Great !!

This conflict has been neglected in a lot of games. Well, I remember old scenarios of the mythic Age of Rifles about this old war. Maybe some TOAW scenarios also ?

Hope we can test your work soon [:)]

There's a TOAW Russio Japanese War scenario out there all right, by Eric Nygaard... and is pretty well done of course.

Of course, in TOAW, ain't much with the naval system. The ships are all there all right but the game admittedly has not much of a naval system. One thing Eric was doing with all his scenarios, was putting in the various guns each naval unit had (as sub-units) and this tended to make the naval combat less bloody and more realistic but..... still... the naval system is not much to speak of as it exists in TOAW (hmmm... not sure Eric has released his updated RJW scenario to Rugged Defense yet.... I was kinda doing a playtest on it).

As far as the land campaign is concerned, the only problem there is Elmer, the TOAW AI, is not all that bright.... consistently allowing his corps to get surronded. I took Vladivostok and the major city north of Mukden and delayed taking Mukden itself (for months) just so I could finish the Port Arthur campaign. There, with Elmer not being at risk to having his flanks turned, things went pretty much as they did historically.

Overall, very interesting if somewhat lacking in the naval system and the computer AI. Would probably play out better in two-player mode, though, not much you can do with the naval system I'm afraid.
