AE vs. WitP
Perhaps a dumb question - Is there any reason to purchase WitP now that AE is coming out?

RE: AE vs. WitP
My understanding is that WITP will be required to run AE.
RE: AE vs. WitP
WITP will still be popular amongst wargamers.
Some of those that play it may well be intimidated by the expanded scope of AE.
An increased complexity of land warfare may be a turnoff for those just interested in moving ships and aircraft around.[;)]

I can't wait for this to come out. The harder the better.[8D]ORIGINAL: Halsey

RE: AE vs. WitP
I recall being overwhelmed by WITP for months, and I'd been playing UV pretty heavy since it came out. WITP is probably 4x the complexity of UV. AE is only about 2x the complexity (in terms of hex count and unit count) of WITP, but I can't imagine being a "new" player who had never played UV or WPO or WITP and first starting with AE. I wonder how many can survive that learning curve, but it will be fun to find out!

Hopefully there won't be too many heads exploding from the effort. It could prove the end of Matrix. [;)]

RE: AE vs. WitP
I think most of the WitP players do what they do because of the complexity (sheep - they call it detail. Heh). Not too many here who will shy away from it I'll wager . . .
I'm interested to try a lot of the new stuff in AE. And it sounds like there are a few things, like waypoints and patrol areas, that will actually make things easier.

I think the AE manual is very good. A lot of time and effort has gone into it.

Documentation is one of the most under resourced efforts in software and one of the hardest things to get right. Very much looking forward to an improved manual. Tutorials are great, though I can't see myself sitting through a tutorial movie. [>:]ORIGINAL: Czert

Tutorial movies are in fact counter-productive. The whole point of a tutorial should be to activate muscle memory, and that doesn't happen if you just sit and stare at the screen.

RE: AE vs. WitP
Hi all,
I disagree.
IMHO tutorial movies together with actual tutorials are the best way to learn (i.e. you first watch basic tutorial movie which explans broad stuff in picture and voice and then you play tutorial by following instruction but now you are already "armed" with previously learned knowledge from tutorial movie)!

RE: AE vs. WitP
Yes, TOGETHER with actual tutorials, but often tutorial movies are all we get, and they're worthless.

RE: AE vs. WitP
Different people learn different ways. What works for some will not work for others. I've forgotten most of my training, but it was four main ways people learn. A GOOD teacher can only teach two or three of them. But with the differing ways of learning, having more than one way of teaching will get to more people. Having an interactive tutorial AND a good manual will get to most.
RE: AE vs. WitP
I'm quite tempted to buy WitP (which is required by AE anyway).
My question is on the pricing.
Will there be a promo for existing WitP players?
Will there be a combo pack for new WitP players?

Nobody knows yet how they are going to market AE, though a combo pack for new players seems like a good idea.
